certainly, people at lake tahoe . we heard someone on the phone say earlier that, yes, those chairs, those ski lists were in operation at a time. everything came to a grinding halt . all of that needs to be examined. >> i forgot about that because those chairs, not all of them, but some of them, the trams are in operation even during the summer. not skiing, but you might take it to the top of the mountain so you can do mountain biking or sightseeing, so they are in operation, and that infrastructure will need to be examined, have here if we had an earthquake. all the muni tracks, b.a.r.t. tracks, caltrain tracks would have to be examined, so they are doing the same thing with their trams and ski lift equipment in the summertime being used for mountain biking and things like that. there's a lot to consider. south tahoe felt it, and a lot of people in the bay area are up in that area now vacationing. whether it is at the camping grounds or campgrounds or in the lake tahoe region, they probably thought they were getting

this is the main artery coming up from south lake tahoe into lake tahoe. briefly shut down 395 was briefly shut down as crews cleared those boulders. it has since reopened, 395. the quake hit about two hours ago. the exact time, 3:49 p.m. it was centered on the california side of the border. you can see the map here. it's triggered a cluster of aftershocks between lake tahoe and mono lake. so far, more than 40 aftershocks. one as high as 4.6. here's another look at some of the rock slides triggered by this quake. you can see, again, you can see people looking up on the hillslide, all the dust and debris from the falling rocks. one point, 395, the main freeway there, was shut down. >> they were able to reopen in about an hour and a half. and we have had, like you said, a dozen aftershocks. some strong. let's check in with jeff ranieri. what can you tell us about the earthquake and the aftershocks? >> based on the seismic area we're dealing with and the size of the fault lines which are -- it's made of a bunch of smaller different fault lines in that seismic
