the road to lake tahoe, as you might imagine, is treacherous. check out this live cam from palisades tahoe ski resort. under a winter storm warning. that's not surprising. the folks at the national weather service expect up to two feet of snow and wind gusts as high as 50 miles an hour. travel to the tahoe area could be very difficult to impossible the winter storm warning remains in effect until 4:00 a.m. wednesday. a lot of similar issues in terms of the alert happening near tahoe as we are getting here in the bay area. >>> another big hit, 1 to 2 feet coming the next 24 hours. and even more after that. so it is one after the other. i do see some breaks coming in the seven day forecast. really the most important thing i want a lot of you to remember out there is we still have water coming up in the roadways. if you live near a creek, stremme or river, stay on alert. have the phone with the nixle alert as we see the weather change in the overnight hours. creeks, streams and rivers are running very high and fast and be very cautious out there. i

let's take a live look at highway 50 in south lake tahoe. roads are slick, icy. i was looking at data, some resorts like here at tahoe, kirkwood, have seen 4 to 6 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. many people, of course, looking forward to getting up there in the sierra in the new year. now is not the time. we have a winter storm warning in effect this morning. this is the pink that you see right there on the sierra, 8 to 14 inches of snow around the basin and, of course, more could pile up on the higher elevations this will be paired with strong wind gusts around 100 miles an hour or more at the crest. whiteout conditions are possible on the roads. be prepared. check on road conditions, have an emergency kit with extra clothes, water, all that stuff to be ready to go if you must travel. now as the rain and the snow continues, our models are looking at a few more feet of snow in the coming days. from now through this weekend into next week we could be looking at those totals like i was saying close to 100 inches by kingvale. 92 in kingvale. 48 in south lake ta

tahoe travel expert kevin cooper says the timing of the storm kept a lot of tourists away. now, martin luther king is a huge weekend for these businesses and they rely on that rental walk up traffic. that's the it and right school traffic to come through the doors. heavenly mountain resort in south lake tahoe has been breaking snow records left and right in the day were over 300 inches for the season. an average season for us is 250 inches. so we blew that out of the water last week. vice president of mountain operations at heavenly, ricky newberry was able to get out and enjoy the sun tuesday, but says the weekend did not go as well. classic severe storm. we had a really big snowball and really strong winds and that impact our operations that impacted the travel. >> people get in here less than 2 miles from heavenly is tahoe sports ltd. department head ct rowe says the rental numbers were steady over the weekend, but that winter storms haven't been so kind to employees. tree actually fell in. my house came right in a much better. >> and happened 2 of our co-workers as well
