firefighters are still trying to prevent 200,000 acre wildfire from spreading into the south lake tahoe city limits. >> we want to go to "today in the bay's" bob redell standing by for us. bob, is the weather cooperating so far this morning? >> reporter: maybe right now you could say it is, but it's not expected to as the sun comes up, we are still under a red flag warning for the tahoe region until 11:00 tonight and we could see wind gusts today ranging anywhere from 20 to 50 miles an hour. as i'm speaking i can actually feel a little breeze. we are here along highway 50 on top of echo summit and as you look down on the caldor fire, you can see that the fire is burning in the canyon below. we're about a 15-minute drive from south lake tahoe. if you look at the direction of the smoke it's moving to the left side of your tv screen. unfortunately that is towards the south shore of lake tahoe. south lake tahoe evacuated monday and last night authorities issued new evacuation orders for the nevada side of the lake. the concern continues to be the direction of the fire that could wind up on the b

as you can see, that makes it into tahoe city going up to the north. you can see another pocket of some very bad air north of chico that lingers and then getting back to the bay area. it's moderate to actually looking good around san francisco. let's just take a look at smoke tracker all day today. it's been kind of that pattern that shifted a little bit to the northeast because her flow patterns becoming from the southwest again will be having another day of this before the winds will start to subside a little bit. and as we head into the weekend, we might be dealing with temperatures climbing fire weather watchers. the red flag warning. we talked about this is an onshore wind by technical definition. but it out of the southwest and conditions are very dry winds 25 to 35 gusts higher. but dew point values have been even into the teens. that's a very, very dry. even drier. we sometimes get in the east bay. so look at that sierra forecast going on here. 76 dropping to 74th of thursday may be clearing up the air a little bit for friday 76 but got to watc

the following area has been moved to an evacuation warning for all streets within the south lake tahoe city limits. this is the message residents received, explaining they could return home, but they're still in evacuation warning in place. that's because there's still a small threat from the fire as well as poor air quality heavy equipment on the roadways and some of the main access points into the city remain closed. there are dangers out there. there's ash pits in the in the wilderness. there's trees that have fallen over that still may be hot. and if something happens in the opposite direction, the in order could come back with this repopulation comes some important messages from the city. first, it applies only to those who live within the city limits. those people who do choose to return home should plan on being self sufficient for several days. stores and restaurants may not reopened soon. also not open barton hospital as they are required to undergo re certification before they can accept patients. so if you have medical issues, you may be better off staying where you are. but most

tahoe. we're about 15 minutes outside of the city of south lake tahoe. can see behind me, there's the fire that's burning in this canyon below me. today is going to be not a great day in terms of weather, at least from what we see in the forecast. we're under a red flag warning until 11:00 tonight and the winds, they could be gusting anywhere from 20 to 50 miles an hour. those are not ideal conditions for the firefighters. as you look there you can see the smoke is burning towards the left side of your screen unfortunately towards south lake tahoe. that gives you a sense of where the wind is blowing. south lake tahoe evacuated on monday and last night authorities issued new evacuation orders for the nevada side of the lake. the concern continues to be the direction of the fire and the fact that it could wind up on the backside of the popular heavenly ski resort which overlooks the lake. the people who are evacuate ready scared they might not have a home to go back to. >> it was nice to have one more night in our house and hopefully it will be here when w

so far, there is no report of any fire burning in south lake tahoe city itself.ly: at this point, what is the likelihood that the fire could get to south lake tahoe? that, of course, is the main concern. mark: yes, it is. it is hard. calfire officials have not been able to say, give an estimate of their ability to keep the fire out. they have crews stationed throughout the city and throughout the southern part of the resort area, trying to keep the flames at bay, so it is very much touch-and-go. and kind of a wait-and-see situation. they have been able to keep the fire out of the out sets. that has been a good sign. emily: thank you so much for that update. one of the biggest issues facing firefighters is knowing where the flames will go next. the department of energy's pacific northwest national laboratory has developed a system that incorporates satellite imaging, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to project wildfires early in predict the path they will take. i am joined by the product manager for radar fire, this new technologically advanced system

i grant we saw a little bit of green earlier but pockets of around tahoe city. >> coming across central valley. you know, some patches of some poor there. but it's again improvement from what we saw even yesterday. now here across the bay. now some moderate is taking a hold of the peninsula. we saw a lot more green earlier this afternoon. but a nice little pocket of green there for the east bay as well. member. our winds are basically out of the northwest for right now live shot as you see the east bay shoreline some of the fog noel was talking about. that's going to start to collect and around the east bay shoreline and certainly for san francisco, not much further inland. however, futurecast for going forward. we're pretty much locked in this pattern with this high-pressure cell. we don't see it really breaking into latter portion of the week. that's a monsoon coming in from the southeast. that's not good. but some scattered clouds to make note of. we expect the high to start to break. we get into around friday and into saturday. doesn't that make you second that stormtracker 4. and t
