many of us are not surprised, at taken aback, when the fed had $80 billion to put into aig just out of the blue. we woke up one morning and aig was receiving $80 billion from the fed. for was the money coming from? not only that, we had more. a balance had to be struck as to what is required to run the fed and irresponsible way, what transparencies there should be, so that the american people have more knowledge about it. i am really not familiar with the details. >> the reports on the current health care plan shows that it is arctic coughing up -- how much are you concerned with the cost of health care? >> i believe they were just scoring a particular bill. first of all, the health-care bill will be paid for. second of all, we have to reduce cost. costs must be reduced as we go forward. we know there are many initiatives for wellness that may not score down. nonetheless, we have to try to keep the number a containable one and an affordable 1one. as the president has already indicated, there is money to be found in medicare and medicaid. administratively, it is ok. but it is how the mo

[laughter] [applause] >> thank you. not having a morning show of my own i had to write mine down. i hope you don't mind. that old cape magic, my new novel, was supposed to be a short story. otherwise, i wouldn't have even begun it. my previous novel, bridge of sighs, had left me drained. the needle on my creative gas tank bouncing off the empty. somehow i had to know you could write a book about despair without feeling just a little bit of that particular emotion yourself. i had imagined that lucy lynch, my protagonist was a haunted one. he, not i., would have to make his solitary journey halfway across his own personal bridge. nothing but darkness and loss awaiting him on the other side. before finally turning back on the advice of a dead man, he and i were not exactly psychic twi

i'm taken aback by that. i understand all the discussion around malpractice, it's a worthwhile topic. i believe malpractice, medical malpractice should be the subject of the judiciary committee that has extensive experience in this area and with the courts, et cetera. beyond, it is beyond the scope of medical malpractice, i believe, should not be a part of this debate, though of this committee, but anyway, by promo promoting health courts and other alternatives to the judicial system, the amendment could seriously have a negative impact on injured victims in its quest for efficiency, which i could understand. the amendment would deny these victims basic rights. jury trials are not an inefficiency to be circumvented. they're the heart of the american system. of the focus of health care reform should be improving on quality, we should not be taking this up. fair treatment for seriously injureded victims is the yardstick by which we should evaluate proposals that would dramatically change the current system for
