good morning, jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, to you tam.know that the search is on for the shooter here. witnesses were being interviewed at southwest detectives not too long ago. police say that this girl was with a group of friends when the hail of gunfire began. this began around midnight when the girls were outside of a home where they just had a barbecue earlier in the day. this is along the 5900 block fox5 of springfield avenue. shots began and then a barrage of bullets p she was hit multiple times. other bullets pierced a home and shattered windows. the 16-year-old girl was hit multiple times in the car and was rushed to pen presbyterian by police. the shooter sped off. friends were taken to be interviewed in hopes of getting a suspect description. >> a description of the shooter. we're just told that a car was last seen speeding off west on springfield towards 60th street. now, we did find some private surveillance cameras in the neighborhood and those cameras are facing in the direction towards where the ballistic evidence is. >> r

good morning, jennette. >> reporter: good morning, tam, this was a brazen home invasion that ended in execution-style murder. take a live look behind me, investigators are on the scene. it doesn't appear anything was taken from inside the home. all happened hours ago around 1:00 a.m. along the 6500 block of north 16th street in the west oak lane section of the city. the suspects kicked in the back door according to police and rushed into the home. the victim was sitting in the living room watching television when the suspects fired at him 11 dimes at pointblank range in the chest and the neck. take a listen to what police had to say. >> we found multiple spent shell casings, large caliber, many shell casings were inches from the victim's body, so appears the shooter was standing in close proximity to the victim when he fired multiple shots. clearly appears to be an execution-type homicide. >> reporter: the victim's grandmother was in the second floor of the home in the bedroom. she was unharmed. police are questioning her and reviewing surveillance video from nearby hoping that will p

. >> reporter: good morning, tam this is a complicated series of events that began with a homicide at 5th and spencer this was an extensive crime scene where it began and police have just opened the roads back up, within the last half-hour. let's start with the picture of the homicide victim, family identifies him as howard white a marine who was injured in a tank explosion years ago. as a disabled veteran he chose to go back overseas for seven years and work as an independent contractor. this happened at 4:00 a.m., howard was at a nearby bar and noticed a man casing the place. he was trying to defuse the situation and telling him to walk away and not rob the bar. that's when his family say he was shot twice. officers heard gunshots and arrived in time to see the suspect fleeing and white's cousin chasing him with two guns in his hand. he was a permit to carry and complied with police to drop the weapon. officers chased the suspect who ended up breaking into a house on north 6th street in an effort to get away. the suspect got into a violent struggle with the homeowner and his adult s
