they say are deadly intersections for pedestrians. former police officer turned serial killer anthony sowell. he has died of natural causes at san quentin state prison. the 79 year-old was convicted and sentenced to death back in 1986. for the brutal shooting and beating murders of 5 women and a man during a six-month period in 1983, the california department of corrections says he died on friday. sully served on the millbrae police force from 1967. to 1974. >> a former attorney for the city of santa clara has filed a lawsuit claiming the city fired him over a hush agreement with the owners of the san francisco forty-niners brian doyle says he was fired in retaliation for whistleblowing in the forty-niners 5 scandal. that's where 5 city council members are accused of having an ethical relationships with management of the forty-niners. the lawsuit says that doyle was fired in a deal to make team friendly decisions in exchange for millions of dollars in campaign support for the council members. doyle says this decision came after he refused to participate in a closed session meeting over legal concerns during his employment dulles as he helped lead several city actions to control the forty-niners management of levi stadium, a wrongful termination lawsuit was filed in santa clara county superior court 2 weeks ago. >> 7.36 and a group of anchor brewing company employees are closer to becoming. >> the owners and operators of the brewery that they love so much. they've been talking to investors and they have a go fund me account now for the iconic san francisco brewery with more than $90,000 raised so far after 127 years anchor brewing stopped production in july because of financial struggles and the unionized employees banded together at that time trying to purchase the brewery and save it from closing in, save their jobs and the process that money that was raised is going to help pay for their legal bills and all the organization they need to help in this effort. >> well, in the north bay, police now looking for this man who is suspected of sexually assaulting someone at sonoma state. take a good look. they released this sketch of the person that police say stands about 6 feet tall. he apparently assaulted somebody early sunday morning on september. 3rd, in tuscany village, which is a student residents. they're asking that if you recognize who this person is, that you give them a call. redwood city police meanwhile, have arrested a man for allegedly harassing a teenage girl at the caltrain station. it happened friday at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon at the station on james avenue, which is right next to the sequoia station shopping center. police say eric perry, redwood city grabbed a 16 year-old girl around the waist and made comments. this is the second time in less than a month, the child was harassed at that station. time now 7.37, antioch and pittsburg police officers facing corruption charges are due in court. >> this week, 6 are from antioch and 4 from pittsburgh. the district attorney's office says that they're going to be asked to enter a plea tomorrow and then preliminary hearings will follow for more than a year and a half. the antioch department has struggled with low staffing while the patrol officers have been charged and they've been on administrative leave. >> and he part of police officers who violated the public's trust that we can free up those positions and continue to hire. >> the city council suggested hiring retired cops to non-sworn police positions and that's going to be proposed at tonight's council meeting. >> 7.38 and the former oakland police chief anne kirkpatrick. it looks like she's going to be the next police chief in new orleans. kirkpatrick was appointed by oakland, mayor libby schaff as the city's first female police chief in oakland back in 2017. but then she was fired in 2020. and then later she filed a whistleblow r claim against the city saying that she was fired for calling out on ethical behavior by the civilian police commission that oversees the department. she ended up being paid 1.5 million dollars as part of that claim. the new orleans city council still needs to approve her nomination before she can begin. >> well, cal state university is set to vote on a possible tuition hike tomorrow, which could mean a tuition increase for the first time in a decade. students are speaking out against this potential increase. they're afraid they say that they will be able for going to college if it goes through. we've got sacked the weather with the story. >> cal state university students in a zoom conference monday taking aim at a new tuition hikes set for vote on wednesday. it is basically not possible to make enough money to live on campus while working campus. think that's just completely wrong. the proposed tuition increases include annual 6% bump through the 2028 29 academic year bringing tuition for that year to about $7,700 compared to roughly 5,750 students are currently raising. tuition does not just happen. you know, back you. >> there are social economic, political cultural considerations at play and having to ask our families for mormon just because csu did not foresee that cost. i you know, it's not counting on end. and that is what needs to be. >> csu officials say the tuition increases are necessary to cover a 1.5 billion dollar projected budget shortfall in unfunded operational costs. they say the 5 year increase proposed is expected to generate about 860 million dollars while the csu is largest revenue source. the state general fund will generate the remaining need. some students feel like they're being left to pick up the tab. you have far away from their mission of providing opportunity and they're moving toward behaving like a corporation and are playing and exploiting workers. the proposed tuition increase would be the first of its kind since the 2011, 2012 academic year. csu officials say roughly 280 million dollars of the 860 would go toward financial aid for students with the most need. but students say the university system which says it prides itself on equitable to rise. president biden announced plans to cover the cost of the new vaccine for those without insurance. and speaking of the flu shot, doctors say this year's flu vaccine is actually already saving lives in south america. the cdc says that the 2023 flu vaccine cut hospitalizations there in half across the whole continent. winter is almost over there. so they're rounding out their flu season. similar strains are beginning to circulate here in the u.s. and the data suggests that the shot is going to be pretty effective here as well. the cdc is encouraging adults and children as young as 6 months old to get the flu shot. now, if they can, the agency's new ad campaign says even if you do get the flu vaccine or the flu. this vaccine will limit your systems from, quote, wild to mild. >>
