on news nation with tamara hall. >>> despite a double digit unemployment rate, african-americans stillpport president obama and his policies. overwhelming 86% of african-americans approve of his handling of the economy and the nbc news/"wall street journal" poll. i'm joined by joanne reed, msnbc kro contributor. we look at the unemployment numbers and it's been difficult for the african-american community close to 16%. 15.1 to be exact. highest of any group. the black and white pay gap also continues. why are we seeing this unfettered support for the president? >> part of the reason is that african-american unemployment was high before the great recession and it's been high in the boom years of the '90s. african-american unemployment was at 12% to 13%. for african-americans i think more people have sort of become accustomed to tougher economic times. >> it was tough before and it's tough now. >> exactly. i think there's a protectiveness of this president. african-americans obviously very proud that we have the first black president and willing to give him who are time. >> i was reading
