our meteorologist mark tamayo is here with what we can expect for tonight. >> right now there's a look at some of the projected numbers. first thing tomorrow morning look at all the 20s for santa rosa, napa, morgan hill and san francisco. all the areas shaded here, overnight temperatures 25 to 30 degrees. a frost advisory right around the bay reflecting temperatures mainly in the low to mid-30s right around 32 to 35 degrees. there will be a storm that will impact your holiday weekend we'll have more on that coming up in just a few minutes. >>> and many people are hitting the roads, right now on interstate 80 traffic is flowing pretty good. 4.7million california are traveling by car. >>> and a look outside, this one at whitmore, it is definitely slow going and snowy conditions there. cal caltrans at this point telling us there's no chain requirements on i80 at this time. that could change, ski resorts have already seen between five and 9 feet of snow this year. >>> we all know how tough flying can be these days. that's why a lot of people are choosing now to fly on a holiday like today.

but first we go to mark tamayo. >> this persistent heavy rainfall will continue the fall. you get an idea with the progression moving to the south and east. in the south bay we have the coverage from the santa cruz mountains to san jose. even right around milpedas. this will continue to be a factor with this activity gradually moving in this direction to the south and to the east. also want to show you some action right around the peninsula here as we take a look at widen out the view here. looks like touching the san mateo county coastline touching pacifica into half-moon bay. rainfall totals, santa rosa .93. look at san francisco over an inch of rain at 1.18. and the bulk of this activity happened earlier this morning with the passage of the frontal system. also want to show you another panel. not as impressive but the santa rosa, at least about an hour ago reporting .8 of an inch. redwood city about .3. the showers still a part of our forecast. we'll keep that in the forecast for this evening. sunset comes up in just a few minutes. temperatures from 55 to 58 degrees. we

meteorologist mark tamayo was tracking the storms. we begin with ktvu's deborah villalon live at the headlands. >> reporter: heather, we are at vista point the north end of the golden gate bridge. it is blustery out here. but the visibility is good. make out the towers and the traffic alongside the beautiful san francisco skyline. after this latest bout of weather blew through. the rumble of thunder and a light show in the sky heralded tonight's storm surge. this is the big picture. here is the nitty-gritty. public works crews called in on their days off to clear plugged storm drains. where rainwater is backing up and flooding the streets. >> all over bay area we have one here. we have two more we have to go to in the hills. clogged up storm drains just so much paper and debris inside of them we have to unplug them. >> reporter: along the boulevard in san francisco backed up flows were strong enough to mush manhole covers off and wash them away. around the east bay the drivers plowed through the street ponds where oversized tires add
