meteorologist mark tamayo has been studying it.'ve seen you back there and there's really been a lot of rain in key areas. >> lots of rain in the mountains. today's storm the third one definitely the strongest. the radar loop over the past few hours will take you back in time to about 7:00 this morning. this was a pattern putting this into motion. you see all those yellows and reds moving into the area. santa rosa over 2-inches of rain. fairfield over an inch. san francisco an inch. san jose 1.20 and look at boulder creek over 5-inches of rain over the past 24 hours. thankfully the storm is moving off to the east and still producing some significant snow out toward the sierra. here's the latest with the sierra snow. we'll come in tighter, these are all weather observation reports from some of the spotters out there as we do come in tighter we'll take a look at a couple of them here. you will notice this out toward incline village. heavy snow. this is at 6:18 this morning over 39-inches of snow. over 3 feet of snow with this, that w

mark tamayo has been busy tracking rain. we are in a bit of a lull right now but it is not over. >> last night at this time we were tracking storm number two and this time tomorrow night we will have track storm three. right now the maps on live storm tracker 2, you can pick out the coverage and the heaviest rain has us out of town. mainly towards napa. the darker shades of green. the yellows correspond to quite a bit of rainfall rolling through the region and moving t smaller activity out there. around the walnut creek area. nothing major. and, a bit of activity with light showers towards the mountains. here is the overall set up. today's storm moved to the east. we still have moisture. as a result we will hold on to scattered rain showers for tonight and into your saturday. our next storm developing, this swings into the area saturday night and into sunday morning. this will be the source. we are calling it storm 3 for more rainfall. saturday, occasional off and on showers, you know it is here. that moves in on sunday morn

meteorologist mark tamayo will detail when the next storm will hit and we begin with ktvu's lorraine lorraine blanco live in napa. >> reporter: the flood warning runs through the night and so does the sandbag operation. city workers say residents have filled 40,000 tons of sand. near the napa river many spent is their saturday blocking openings in case the river overflows its bank. as for downtown, city leaders tell us napas a years long project is two-thirds complete and believe those measures will protect the area. >> we're looking at our modeling and our flood project improvements and we're anticipating that what we have done to protect the community from flooding will keep the river in its banks within the city based on the projections of rainfall amounts. >> reporter: city leaders and member of the flood district will meet torte. if it rains more than expected they will open a emergency center to send out help wherever needed live in napa, lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the russian river is also creating avenuity for sonoma county residents where the river expected to

mark tamayo has been tracking the rain all day. but we begin with jade hernandez live in oakland. >> reporter: maureen, it is raining. we are live in just one of the cities where it's raining tonight. a few hours ago, not far from here that outage left more than a thousand residents without power. public works crews were busy mopping up rain related issues all day. dryers couldn't get past the mud to highway 24 in lafayette. rain drenched oakland and other parts of the bay area. in san francisco wind and water battering this awning may have helped it collapse on to a tree and car. >> i just was thanking god that me and my family wasn't in there. we were in the car last night. >> these photos show the inside of the awnings rusty base filled with water. a tarp corrects the car now. she won't be driving home tonight. >> the hood is in and the whole window is out. the trunk is like -- it's just bent down. >> reporter: as city public works crews chipped away, another problem continued to keep drivers from using all lanes. back in the ea

mark tamayo is tracking the train. ktvu's maureen naylor is at san jose airport we begin with ktvu's amber lee. she tells us about the problems it caused. >> reporter: it is raining right now. we are along 101 tonight. a highway patrol officer took us long as she worked in the rain during one of the busiest periods of the year. >> reporter: sounding her siren she fought traffic to respond to an accident. it involved a motorcycle and a car. one of five crashes they responded to around 6:00 p.m. tonight. officers say they were all weather related. >> reporter: minutes later she spotted the driver of his car speeding past her car, going 80 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. the officer sited the driver for speeding. >> she was initially in the slow lane and one turn went straight to the fast lane. >> reporter: this time of year people are rushing around trying to get things down for the holidays so drivers are stressed and distracted. ingredient for an accident. >> incredible this year. much worse than any other

let's check in with mark tamayo. seems like we dodged a bullet.thought we would have serious flooding rivers. >> thankfully the storm pushed through rapidly. so good news, we could breathe right now. you can see basically a dry weather patworn the bulk of the activity -- pattern with the bulk of the activity heading to the east. another issue with this storm, were the wind speeds. winds backing off, 3-6 miles per hour. nothing too major. the wind advisory has expired. it has been a very active week. on wednesday we were talking about the first system moving in and multiple storms pushing across. we had breaks on thursday. we had that break out there. but the second storm friday and once again few rain showers yesterday and rain picked up earlier this morning. past few days, 9.5 inches of rain. santa rosa 7.8. concord 4-1/2. san francisco 3.77. san jose 2.5 inches of rain over the past few days. forecast headlines tonight, partly cloudy skies. rain clouds moving out of the bay area. tomorrow partly cloudy skies. we bring in more clouds tuesday and

mark tamayo joins us with a look at the totals and one area that really got a drenching. >> the coastalls the numbers continue to pick up and add up. you might be surprised by the numbers that i'm about to show you. the rf started this morning and really intensifying by midmorning into the early port angeles of the afternoon. you can see santa rosa coming up as we can see here nearly 2 inch. but look at boulder creek, over 5" of rain. san josi nearly an inch. san francisco just about an inch and oakland 1.25". fremont just over 1.5". we're still tracking moderate to heavy rain across the region right now. all thought coverage has been decreasing on live stormtracker 2, but we're watching the santa cruz mountains with the excessive rainfall amounts. we'll check out the south bay for san josi, the darker shades evergreen and yellows reflect heavy rainfall towards milpitas and livermore, this activity just beginning to drift to the south and east. basically just a few lingering showers out towards the brentwood area and around antioch. those yellow and reds showing up around highway 4. and

mark tamayo joins us to give us a sense of what's ahead in the next few hours. >> it's one of those days, if you're outside for 10 seconds, you were drenched instantly. we have been talking about two storms. the next one will be the strongest of the series, moving in on sunday. live storm tracker 2, the bulk of the heaviest rain is out to our east, toward stockton, approaching modesto. lingering rain showers around the santa cruz mountains, zooming in closer to parts of the peninsula, around san mateo, east bay, showers around hayward. just to the north and west, a few spotty showers here and up in the north bay, around petaluma and santa rosa. areas showing you rain showers to contend with, and also the glenn ellen area. that will be a factor tonight before another system moves onshore. this will be the strongest in the series, with rainfall forecasts topping 2 inches in the coastal hills. could be approaching 2 inches in the north bay. for the central portions of the bay, about three quarters of an inch to over an inch. we are keeping our eyes on the river levels. the russian river has
