our producer, tamika cody, met up with the high school freshman and brings us his story in his own words, my name is heman bekele. i'm 14 years old and i just recently won the three m young scientist challenge for creating a bar of soap that can help treat skin cancer from a very young age. growing up in ethiopia, i always saw people who were getting hit by the hot sun, and when they did end up getting diseases such as skin cancer or the prices were truly either inequitable or inaccessible to so many people, the average price of skin cancer treatment globally is almost $40,000, and that's an outrageous price and a number that i hope to fix slowly through products like these, which finding more innovative and different way to go about treating skin cancers like basal cell skin carcinoma, which are normally super expensive to fight against. so the main reason why i chose to even do this was just to find a more affordable and accessible route to treating the same type of diseases. the product that i worked on developing for this past couple of months, almost a year and a half now, is this p

. >> okay our next question will come from tamika. >> is a first african-american first lady you knew this was coming. she's constantly framed as being a role model for girls of color particularly for black and brown girls. how did she feel about the framing and how is pretrade in the media? >> is to one of those things and she has talked about this and written about it. when you are a person of color you live it your whole life. she was the first or one of only awe few and she went to princet. when she was at harvard law school. when she was at the law firm. you grow up almost conscious of that. it became a part of who she was knowing that. but her commitment to young people started even before the white house. which was not-for-profit ine chicago working as the ceo. which she inspires young people to do social service. she always used to say if she was tired or a little cranky put her in a room with young people and that would be the solution. go do jumping jacks on the south lawn with young people. but she did understand the role she had would be very important. she used to say it
