joining us now is senator tammy duckworth of illinois. med services committee, and she's one of a dozen senate democrats on the congressional task force on the coronavirus. senator duckworth, illinois has not been as hard hit on this meatpacking pandemic of its own. but what do you think is necessary to reopen these plants safely? can they slow down that line so that the workers don't have to work so frantically and can space out farther apart? is there a safe way to do this? >> well, i'm not an expert in meatpacking, but i can tell you what we need is we need federal help. right now those workers don't even have adequate ppe. they're in the same boat as all of our first responders, our clinicians. there's just not enough ppe or testing to go around. if you want these workers to come back to work, in addition to the actual physical down at the lines you need to get them all the equipment they need to protect themselves, which this president has failed to do over and over again to everyone. >> i wanted to talk to you about the new unemploym

joining me now from more on the white house's plan or lack thereof, senator tammy duckworth of illinois. for the people of illinois, what do you tell them about what the federal government that you're part of and what the white house, administration and congress, the federal government's plan is for the people that you represent in the state of illinois to make sure there is a safe way for them to start to come out of lockdown? >> well, chris, what i tell them is don't trust a trump administration. listen to governors and his plan for state and the illinois department of public health and the plan the governor put forward. he's put forward a methodical plan. a five-step plan. the first four steps of the plan is social distancing, wearing masks and more testing and we need to do contact tracing. don't trust what the trump administration says because they don't have your best interest at heart. >> one thing that worries me about the sort of return to work reopening conversation and again, i say this as someone who very much, like a lot of people, wants to restore some normalcy, does not t

another name people are not talking about is tammy duckworth, who is military, a war veteran, someone was wounded in action and as a mother of a young child and as a daughter of the revolution, and a woman of color. and from the midwest. so i think she somebody who could also be a strong candidate -- >> tucker: i think that's probably a smart point. quickly, kamala harris is a sitting united states senator. why not her? >> i think, again, when we talk about that demographic that we need to reach, kamala harris doesn't necessarily reach that demographic. she's not particularly possible with working-class african-americans and in particular with working-class african-american men. she was coming in, pulling around fourth. she didn't run her campaign very well, so i don't think that she is the best choice. and, you know, the biden campaign, allegedly there are people who leaked the facts that they think she is a clunky communicator and if there's anything that biden doesn't need, it's a clunky communicator to be his running mate. so stacy abrams is a good communicator. a very strong comm
