i'm tamron hall.he news nation is following breaking news in the sex abuse trial against former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky. former assistant coach mike mcqueary is now on the stand. he reported seeing the 68-year-old coach sexually assaulting a boy in the locker room showers at penn state in 2001. meanwhile, emotional testimony from the accuser set the grand jury investigation into motion. the now 18-year-old broke down telling jurors how the former penn state coach allegedly abused him when he was only 11 years old. nbc's national correspondent michael isikoff joining us. mike mcqueary allegedly testifying what he saw in the shower. >> reporter: mike mcqueary took the stand in this case and recounted that shower scene in february of 2001 where he walks in and says he sees jerry sandusky with a young boy skin-on-skin smacking sounds and arms around the young boy. sandusky and the young boy are startled. mcqueary could not barely process what he saw. goes back and calls his fath

>> well, there's a lot of democrats, tamron as you know very well that come from swing districts places where the nra has a lot of influence especially in rural areas but also in sort of suburban slightly rural areas. the nra is the most powerful special interest group in this country. and there's a lot of democrats from swing districts that do not get on the wrong side of the nra and will be forced to hold eric holder in contempt tomorrow afternoon. this is something we've heard numbers from 25 to 35. the reason why is because darrell issa has this theory that the reason why the white house has been slow to act on the fast and furious was that there was going to be a national swell, if you will, for gun control perhaps bring back the assault weapons ban because of what was going on between the mexican and american border about the gun flow there.

i'm tamron hall. the mad dash for campaign cash. at this hour president obama is wrapping up his two-day fundraising push in california while mitt romney raising cash in missouri. it comes with news that mitt romney and the rnc outraised the president and democrats. the romney campaign reports bringing in nearly $77 million last month. compared with team obama's $60 million. politico reports, this is the first month when we've had a direct hard dollar comparison between obama and romney on fundraising. and the results cast an even darker shadow on an already disappointing week for democrats. this morning, dnc chair woman spoke with thomas roberts and insisted democrats are doing just fine. >> it's not really surprising that the republicans were able to pull down a lot of low hanging fruit. they just formed the romney campaign and the rnc just form their joint fundraising committee. we're very comfortable and confident that we're thrilled the fundraising that came in this month for us are on track to have the resources that we need.

now, a couple of things, tamron. number one, it's worth noting that the guns that walked across the boarder here they allowed to go across the border have never been definitively linked to the killing of terry. some of the guns were found at the scene where he was shot but that's as far as the government's gone so far in terms of ballistics. the documents congress wants are not documents about the operation itself, how it was authorized. instead what congress now wants is documents from last year from, february to december last year that detail how the administration here, officials in washington, acted when they found out that their initial statement to congress that there were no guns walked turned out to be wrong. the committee now wants to know if there was some kind of cover-up here. that's the documents they're seeking and the documents that the president now has asserted executive privilege over. >> pete, the white house communications director dan pfeiffer issued a statement and it said in part the problem of
