. >> reporter: that's right, tamron. the refugees who, as you say say, are flowing in -- actually, tens of thousands now. just as foreign fighters that is we saw speaking with richard flow into syria from here, the syrian refugees are flowing into turkey. they make the point, many of them make the same point about how extreme, almost medieval the fighting and the fighters have become inside. they talk about the fighting even among rebel groups now themselves. you know, that young fighter that you just saw talking to richard, he is certainly more extreme than, let's say, your average free syrian army soldier, but there are groups of foreign fighters, thousands of them inside, who are much more extreme than even that young masked man. one person i spoke to today arrived here a couple months ago and said he feels the majority of syrians who are victimized by both sides. you have the assad regime using chemical weapons on one side and these islamic extremists. it's like the taliban in afghanistan, really, on the other side.

i'm tamron hall. the news nation is following breaking news. growing support for president obama in congress for a military strike against syria. in about 30 minutes, secretary of state john kerry, defense secretary chuck hagel and joint chiefs of staff general martin dempsey will testify before an emergency hearing called by the senate foreign relations committee. now, it will be the first public questioning of obama administration officials since the president called on congress to authorize an attack on syria. earlier today, the president held the latest in a series of meetings, this time with congressional leaders as well as the chairman and ranking members of the national security committees. the president emphasized this will not be like recent u.s. involvements. >> the key point that i want to emphasize to the american people, the military plan that has been developed by our joint chiefs and that i believe is appropriate is proportional, it is limited, it does not involve boots on the ground. this is not iraq and this is not afghanistan.
