tang: thank you very much. supervisor safai? >> supervisor a. safai: thank you. i think this is a very thoughtful piece of legislation. my only questions are about timing. i tried to read through the ordinance. i understand that you would have to have a permit for mandatory seismic retrofit but i know there's usually noticing and processes to actually get the permit. i guess my question is, i just want to make sure people can actually get the permit in a timely manner because it says it lasts for six months. it says then it could be extended at the discretion of the director. all that makes sense, maybe you could pinpoint to me, i just want to make sure they could access the temporary mobile food permit in a timely manner. you do a 10-day noticing to the neighboring restaurants, you have to remain 50 feet within your existing restaurant. you have all these exemptions, right? can someone talk about -- is someone here from d.p.w. i think i saw jeremy. if you could talk us through, i want to make sure these busine

i don't know if that could be amenable in the amendment, supervisor yee or tang? >> she will speak next. >> thank you. this is one piece of several pieces of amendments to the health code. this one, in particular was brought forth by the department of public health after a period of time of going through their massage permitting program and seeing what kind of clarification language needs to be made. in prior iterations of our amendment to the health code, we have actually already inserted language that was suggested about placing, not the burden, but we really want to prevent those individuals who have a history of human trafficking and of sex trafficking or whatever it was, that they would be prevented from opening businesses if they had a history that is already in the health code. again, i will support supervisor yi's amendment but this is not indicative of the whole entire health code changes that we have made over the years. to not criminalize those who have been victims of a certain type of crime. >> thank you, very much. i will take supervisor yee's introd

with that, i make that motion. >> president cohen: motion has been made by tang and second by safai. we're going to go to supervisor brown. >> supervisor brown: thank you, supervisor tang, for crafting this legislation. lower haight, haight ashbury, fillmore has been struggling. it's just that retail is changing and the changes are presented, presenting challenges for brick and mortar small businesses and corridors that they make possible. we need it support our merchants as they adopt with these times. our small business people will adopt and thrive, but it's important that we as a city don't get in the way of the changes. i know we're all looking at these issues and i accept that we are as how to help. i also plant to bring forward some legislation in the coming weeks, focusing on street lining some aspects with the goal of helping our merchants. i want to make a plug to highlight one of the aspects of the legislation. it cleans up what, in my mind, is a hole in the evolution of our code that prohibited arts activities, as a use of virtually all of our citicorp do-- city corridors.
