we sadly don't have a lot of information today because the records just weren't we taned. we have researchers that are investigating there. i'm hoping we'll be able to find a lot more information on the people working here and living here, but we don't right now. what we do know is that many of the enslaved people were working on a cash farm, a cash plantation cash crop plantation about 40 miles north of here in rockingham county where they did grow cotton. he also had sheep which were unusual in the south and to provide wool. she was probably not comfortable with the idea of slavery at all and probably influenced him in not investing as much in enslaved people as his peer group likely would have. as the civil war began to rear its head in politics in the state of north carolina, governor morehead was reluctant to see the state of north carolina and join the confederacy. he had built the state that would have connected to larger system of railroads up and down the eastern seaboard that placed greensboro in a favorable location. he saw that as a great opportunity that green
