jesse grant was a tanner. bridal'saddles, harness, and also shoes. harness,s, bridles, and also shoes. there was a creek on one side and a creek on the other side, so there would be a lot of water for the tannery. he built two rooms. one room abouove the other. he did not even put a stairway. the reason is, he needed to have the tannery go in. but he was very successful in his tanning. later, 1825, he built a kitchen onto the back of the house for hannah, and then he built a side porch in 1850 -- 1826, and in 1828 people the entire front of the house. many but windows, big windows, which was unusual back then. for heating and cooling, having big windows made it more difficult. but jessie was a show off. he wanted big windows. that's why he did areas -- that's what he did. three closets, which was unusual. you do not have that much to store, so you did not worry about closets. you would pay more taxes if you had a closet. i do not think that was his reason. he just made the big rooms and the big windows to show off. but yet the money to do it as well.
