how about you, tanner. >> i'm tanner, i was at the marines and i did 5 years 2013-2717.ew i uponed to be in the military. like alec we have family members navy, army and all the above. i figured i would go in this one. and yea i did 5 years. and it was amazing. iel >> you were take being pictures or video? for when i was there triple circumstance forefronting i marine corp tv serious. we were doing like documentary work, right. so -- we would cover like the first female infant real marines covered on the east and first female assault [inaudible] as well. where they work on the big man escaping my. the triple aman b. covered the training they did, being able it deadweight lift, 168 pounds out of the av. everything that we did. [laughter]. so. it was incredible y. when i was in the navy my last 2 years in, i was electronic technician i worked on radar and gps stuff. and you know they called me twijet, tweak and adjust it. i actually [laughter] was interested in film make thanksgiving was in 99 in 2000. my last deployment i wanted to make videos. and so i started my friend

he's like tanner what's up and i'm just walking at the time. i'm like i'm going to document the fires a couple other friends i was like would you want to come up and help me document what's going on and he's like sure and i'm like okay i know -- i hope you know what you are getting yourself into. i went up there on top of the canyon and we were watching the flames and as they got close i was like your houses down the road. this is getting too close, it's not good. we went down the air -- there. >> you live in berlin half the year, you live in the pacific palisades. your family lost two of their three homes. that's cut to be devastating and you said your parents were bound and determined to stay. >> absolutely. i'm a third-generation pacific palisade in and my mother even hours before said not in my 71 years has the fire ever gone to the palisades village. they were planning on staying and it was before about 7:00 when my family, my siblings and our group chat, we had to call 911 to get my mom and dad out. they lost power so they've notoriously

hey luke, this was a tanner. i was in the probably this is karen sound. yeah, a little bit at a time and i get it cleaned up. i get all the big, jumped into there and believe it or not, a lot of that stuff and get even though it's burned up here to get utilize, you know, and i want to try to find somebody clean. i'll just step out and have this car payment, you know, like do graffiti on it and some people are very good and yeah, this was a good looking car. it was white headed convertible type. married. and then somebody ran in there one day. so it was on fire by the time i came out the door, steve, see my top r plus i didn't know if there's gas and i didn't want it to blow blow me up. yeah. the the, what to do? i have a fire. you know, so we had a fire that there was stated, the people who lived here for about 10 years, 20 yards from it. it is massive me and like a can me here. yeah. we woke up in them. i woke up in the morning because my feet were hot because my baby is on fire. so that was a huge loss because bad like, uh, uh, $20.00 to $30000.00 worth

so tanner, you've been chasing, not just the winds that are fueling the flames, but therefore also the fire to. busy us what you've been up to and what you saw. yeah, so i'll just sit here for the holidays. i'm actually from minnesota. but when the fire broke out, i immediately took action to try and documented and see if i could help people in need and not kind of thing. i have some history with the rescue and that kind of thing. and so i kind of like jumped into action, and so i made my way up towards rustic canyon in the policies there. and so as i was growing up, met a friend of mine uh, named arly. and he was just uh, he was evacuated and i didn't know he even lived up there. and i was like, hey man, would you wanna come up and help me scout the fire and just see what's going on and documenting. he said yes. and so we went to the top, it took a canyon just looking over everything. and as the fire was raging and getting closer and i, i realized it was getting close to his house as well. so we bailed, we went down a couple blocks and we started preparing his house. uh, just uh, tryi

then you ran into a friend of yours who's also a storm chaser, tanner charles, you went back to your house to try the fight this off before realizing it wasn't going to work. the reason i bring all this up is because the winds now going to kick up again, is and it's expected to get pretty bad in the next couple of days. when you hear that and you know there are folks out there who might try to do the same thing, they might try to stay in their home, they might resist the evacuation orders, given your experience, what do you recommend to them? what would you say? >> well, if the hoses don't work, don't stay. i think there's so much confusion going on, is and i've been back to the palisades and seen that there are neighborhoods where one out of twenty houses is burned down and neighborhoods where 19 out of 20 the houses are burned down. and so i'd say this is a little bit reckless, but if you have an escape route and you know it's secure, then don't let the fire take your house. you know, we left only because we were keeping track of the escape route and once it seemed compromised, we
