fresh grocer tony tantillo has some tips on how to select the best ones. >>reporter: today's tip of the day is beautiful heirloom tomatoes. it's summertime, they're out everywhere and the flavor is incredible if you select them right. and with all the colors and varieties, you'll be deciding all day what to choose from. we'll settle with this one. look at these beautiful tomatoes, the yellows, the reds, with names like radiator jack, the golden tomato. when you buy them, make sure the colors are nice and bright all the way around, free from any slifling whatsoever. -- shifling. the growers pick them when they're fully ripe and send them to the market. buy them and use them within one or two kays, that's it. the way i enjoy them, i cut them up and put some cheese on it which is fantastic, champagne vinegar, a little bit of basil and mint, some salt and pepper, some good olive oil and there you go, an heirloom tomato salad that's out of this world. heirloom tomatoes in the market for the next several months, a little bit on the expensive side compared to reg

. >>> today fresh grocer tony tantillo indulges in a sweet fruity treat. he shares his tips for picking out the perfect cantaloupe. >> reporter: well, today's tip of the day is going to be is summertime cantaloupes. right now they don't get any better than this all year. they are fantastic, loaded with flavor, nutritional value. so when i tell you sugar, now is the time. take a look at this how beautiful this is when you cut it. look at the color. incredible. when you buy them, you want to make sure they look like this. just like this right here. a nice color all the way around. a little bit of a give here, not too much. heavy for their size, very important. unlike offshore imported cantaloupes, you want to buy these the less green the better. when you bring them home, store them in the refrigerator, never on the counter because the heat, what happens is, the cantaloupes get gray colored to them and indentation takes in and you don't want that. the cantaloupes, but i like them at room temperature, so take them out of the refrigerator about an hour before i

so on to tony tantillo and his family. they are simmering some mussels today and tony's table, he shows us three key ingredients in one of the easiest seafood recipes. >> today, i felt like seafood. i love mussels and the prices are great right now. so we're making a mussels what, steph? >> adiavol. they are one of the easiest seafoods you can prepare. we had garlic, extra virgin olive oil and onions. we sauteed those up and poured in the mussels, white wine and then you cover this and you let it simmer so the mussels open up. they are key to look for. >> if they don't open up, you want to discard them. they are no good and may make you sick. put red pepper in there to make it fra diavalo. a touch of salt because it's seafood. it likes salt. natural salt. now, i like what you put on the top. usually you would use basil but i lovemint. mint and seafood is a refreshing flavor. you can have it with pasta or perfect on its own. >> look how beautiful this is. put it over pasta like you said. got any? >> no. >> okay. >> sorry.
