ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live with more on what caused the fiemplet good afternoon, tara? >> good afternoon. we have learned from arson investigators that they have not exactly pinpointed what caused this fire but they do believe it started either in the kitchen or the rear deck of the building that i'm standing in front of right now. we just learned some new information about one of the victims. we have a 35-year-old man who suffered up to 90% of his -- suffered burns up to 90% of his body. most of the damage to the building here and on the back, in the roof. >> my roommate was saying, get up, get up, get up. >> reporter: about two dozen people scramblinged to get out. >> at the same time, the woman upstairs came down, covered in soot, could not breathe, was hysterical. >> this building was between valencia and mission on 24th street. >> when i came down, it was glowing and orangey as i came down. >> one of the victims was brought down a ladder, and our firefighter gave his mask up so he could have some fresh air to breathe. so he had a little bit of smoke inhalation but

good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning, dave. the family was hoping for a miracle.ut after meeting with doctors they do agree their son should come off life support. the family attorney said that should happen sometime later this afternoon. you can imagine the family is completely devastated. they were here last night at the children's hospital of oakland waiting for test results which did show their child had no brain activity. the decision came after the family pubically acknowledged wednesday that they had reached a cross roads about the boy's treatment. doctors have said hiram's prognosis is grim. theyed that a second opinion from their pediatrician. six other people were wounded when three hooded gunmen opened fire on a group filming a music video at seventh and willow street. at least two people in the group returned fire. now police have detained around half a dozen people on unrelated charges but have made no arrests in connection with that shooting. investigators have said the shootout may have been a gang feud. that would make the second time this year a y

ktvu tara moriarty is in redwood city now. just talked to an employee at the store that told you police are -- don't have a really critical clue they are looking for right now. tara. >> that is right. you know you can imagine they were hoping to see surveillance video. the workers here tell us the camera which is located inside. it's just above the camera and soda machines. it doesn't work. and it hasn't worked for some time apparently. so really the biggest clue we know of the investigators have is a description of the get away car. that is a white buick with tinted windows. two people were shot in the parking lot around 7:00 last night. we are off middle field road near a costco store. one victim ran inside the fast food place to get help. the other was still on the ground until the parking lot when officials arrived. one victim was struck in the arm the other in a leg. there were people out doing holiday shopping last night. they heard the gunshots and saw the suspects drive off. police are looking for four suspects. two ra

tara. >> that is correct. as you take a look at this column you can see the marks where the trucks hit. if you follow this trail here this is where the truck spun out and rested right here where the tire marks are. we are underneath the overpass at first street. and about 15 minutes ago is when the tow truck came to clear this scene. now it did take them some time to extra date the victim. as you can see the truck is quite mangled. it happened just before 2:30 this morning. officers say a man about 40 years old drifted off the roadway and crashed into the cement pillars. >> found the driver pinned inside the vehicle. we called for paramedics and fire department. they came and attempted to extra date him. the fire department pronounced him dead on the scene. >> reporter: highway patrol investigators spent a good two hours taking evidence and processing the scene. officers looking at whether alcohol or falling asleep at the wheel played a factor here. the victim has a couple different addresses. one of them in m
