tara moriarty is joining us live from the scene where chp expects the lanes to remain closed for a bit. >> reporter: yeah, good morning. this is 580 westbound. this is stop and go traffic across the altamont pass. about a 15 minute backup at this stage. and if we come over here, we can show you the the reason which is the over turned big rig and it's filled with fresh produce. thousands of bananas. hundreds of thousands of bananas from mexico. the driver veered off at road at 2:00 this morning. you can see it flipped on its side. down below there are flat beds. crews have been busy loading the thousands of boxes of bananas. we are told by chp that the guy driving the pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel and ran into the -- actually hit the back of a dump truck. he got out of his car and tried to alert traffic about his stalled vehicle with a flashlight. so the semi carrying all of these bananas hit the abandoned truck on the side of the freeway and pubbed the truck to the the center divide. we are told it will be about three hours for this cleanup to take place. but for now you should
