let's bring in tara maller. she's a spokeswoman for the senior policy adviser. hank you. >> thanks for having me. >> what do you think? >> i think it could be a turning point on the battle and could be a trigger for attacks. it could be a positive in terms of regaining a isis strong hold, limiting some of their capacity in terms of holding territory. having said that, they'll have their virtual operations. they still have the ability to inspire home grown terrorism all over the world and they have sort of distributed outside that area. so while it's a pivotal turning point, that's correct. you're right. it can trigger more attacks. these are the things that isis pointed out. just like we called for ramadan, we'll see calls related for the suspense as well. >> shepard: what is happening? the united states is supposed to be in a supporting role. what is your understanding what is really going on there? >> according to the pentagon, they've been working and surrounding the city since the fall, since november. they've been working to get civilians out, as many as pos

let's turn to tara maller. she's a spokesperson and senior adviser. eat to see you,tara. >> thanks for having me. >> what jumps out at you here? >> what jumps out, we don't know a lot about these individuals. we have a sense that one was on law enforcement's radar screen but we're not sure if they had contact with isis or another terrorist organization. we're not sure about foreign travel. we're not sure about other associates or if this was part of a larger cell in the u.k. a lot of factors here that could have contributed to the timing. isis has been calling for attacks in ramadan, calling for vehicles attacks in the ramadan season. we just saw that ham on the heels of two other terrorist attacks in the u.k. so while it's tragic, it's not surprising given that we've seen a build-up leading up to this attack. still a lot of questions about the level of contact these individuals may have had. if one was on law enforcement's radar, were there flags that were missed ahead of the attacks. >> shepard: we take about law enforcement radar. it's one thing to

let's turn to tara maller. she's a spokespersonç for the counter extremism project. ara, you're here again. what is your take on this one? >> i am here again. this is coming on the heels of a few attacks over the past few days. we saw a vehicle attack in london, one in paris, a dead nated bomb in brussels. we don't know if this is an act of terrorism. authorities are treating it as such. we don't know about the individual suspect. isis has been calling for the attacks, low sophistication, knife and vehicle attacks. we're seeing people probably on their own. doesn't look like it was a cell yet. doesn't look highly coordinated, not yet. looks like it may have been an individual that saw the attacks over the past few days and perhaps was motivated by a group. we don't know that yet. took a knife and went to an airport and tragically injured a police officer. >> shepard: yesterday in brussels, the attacker couldn't get past security. is that the same case? >> right. so i mean, the good news to this is that there wasn't any detonation at this airport. nobody at least right
