ktvu tara moriarty joins us now from st. mary's cathedral where final preparations are under way. >> reporter: good morning, the funeral mass is set to start at 2:30 this afternoon firefighters from all over the country are expected to attend. last night there was a rosary here at st. mary's cathedral. hundreds of people showed up. in the hour before the wake the two fallen firefighters passed by their fire house number 26 for the last time. before they were firefighters they were vinny and tony. his first rescue may have come as a child when his brother got stuck in the mud. >> he kept trying to pull me out. i'm like there's the fire station right there. >> reporter: all week people have been bringing flowers and cards to station 26. the last time the city lost more than one firefighter to a single call was hotel fire in 1946. this time, a house fire that seemed manageable blew up on them. now it will be a full catholic mass at today's double funeral. there are several people speaking so it won't be likely wrapping up until

now, we have tara moriarty -- >>> now let's go to tara moriarty.ice crews are arriving, and they are getting people out of the area. it's gonna be so packed here that they've put in 20 porta- potties. there's a parking lot. it's very small. it doesn't fit very many people. we have a lot of family, police, media. definitely table mass transit if you want to get here. services start at 12:30. in the hour before the wake, they passed by their fire house one more time. vincent perez grew up in bernal heights, went to riordan high school. friends say he loved to restore vintage cars. anthony valerio, had a fantastic sense of humor. he loved to bake sourdough bread. all week people have been bringing flowers and cards to station 26. the two men died last week in what is called a flashover. a house fire that heated up to 1,000 degrees. now, this afternoon's mass will be a long one because it's a double funeral. i expect it to run at least two hours. there will be remembrance speeches, firefighter badges and a helmet presentation as well as the fare well.

ktvu's tara moriarty has details. she's back now to tell us that officials think there may be more victims. tara. >> reporter: police are asking if there are more victims to please step forward. we're here at stratford school off andover lane t. is where the teacher has worked for the past five years. it's a private organization. they have 13 pre-school and elementary campuses across the silicon valley. we have no idea how old this alleged victim is or if it's a boy or girl. but here's a look at the teachers booking photo. police say 28-year-old phelps committed lewd acts with a young student. she was arrested two weeks ago. san jose police say they got a tip at 10:00 in the morning and took phelps into custody eight hours later. it's not known where the alleged molestation took place if it was at the school or what. phelps has an account with facebook and myspace. information online reveals she's married and has a house in san jose where she lives with her husband and brother. it says she is a specialty course middle

ktvu's tara moriarty joins us now from hayward where le vanished nearly three weeks ago. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. we are at the parking lot at the hospital which is off of sleepy hollow avenue. it's where michelle le was last seen alive. now le's family and the class kids foundation are asking for volunteers to help look for her starting tomorrow. hayward police have already reclassified this case as a murder investigation. the organization founder mark class said that the goal is to find le safe and sound. le's father has said that until police can show him some compelling evidence, he will not give up hope that his daughter is okay. hayward police are recommending some areas for the teams to search. >> you know some of the areas that we have in question are large land masses with a lot of trees and shrubbery and although we feel that we were very extensive in our first searches, it's possible we missed something small. by all means there's still evidence out there that we'd like to collect. >> reporter: now sources tell ktvu that investigators were

tara moriarty is at the scene of the first fire with information about why the two may be linked. tara. >> reporter: could an arsonist be on the loose? that's what fire investigators are tying to determine this morning. if you look behind me here you can see where this fire started at this car and how the flames lapped up against the roof of the house. these two fires broke out within one block of each other around 1:00 mt. morning. someone called in the first fire saying a car was up in flames close to a house. crews drove by another fire along the way and believed these two may be connected. >> the second fire we officially had reports of individuals trapped in the building. fortunately they were able to extinguish the fire so there is no injury to the residence. >> reporter: no one was hurt in either of these fires. we have no word on damage estimates. this investigator will be out here for the next several hours. coming up a little bit later we will tell you how an alert firefighter may have saved the second house from further destruction. i'm tara moriarty. >>> firefighters in

ktvu's tara moriarty is at police headquarters this morning with what they are saying this morning. tara. >> reporter: actually, we are not at police headquarters. we are at the hospital parking lot where investigators believe that michelle le was actually killed. they say that surveillance video from this garage as well as forensic evidence collected from her car all points to murder. now lee stanley walked out of police headquarters yesterday with heavy hearts after officials told them the nursing student who vanished ten days ago was killed. the 26-year-old was last seen may 27th around 7:00 at night when she took a break from her duties at the hospital where she was working toward her nursing degree. the next day her honda was found a few blocks away. this latest news is a huge blow to le's friends and family. >> we realize this is the worst possible news family or friends or anyone to have, but despite everybody's hopes, our efforts for michelle have now turned to efforts of recovery. >> reporter: yesterday investigators collected boxes of evidence from a person of interest apar

tara moriarty is live. >> reporter: according to reports the mother and father raced away to the hospital with the dying infant inside of their car. they were speed sog the police pulled them over. when an officer approached the car they noticed the father was holding his abdomen screaming his baby had been shot. last night about 50 people from the community held a vigil where the shooting happened. the community is really rallying together after hearing that this family of four from redwood city was leaving a baby shower around 1:00 in the morning sunday when two gunmen approached their car and just started shooting. a bullet struck the baby in the head. his three-year-old brother was not harmed. the suspects ran away. neighbors say they are stunned. >> it's just a regular get together. had kids playing ball in the back. and just you know to go from that and hear everything that has happened you are just like in complete shock. >> reporter: now the mother took a bullet trying to shield her children. both she and the father are still in serious condition. now here's a look at sketches tha

tara moriarty is live on the scene with the first fire reported with more on the suspected connection reporter: good morning. could an arsonist be on the loose? that is what this fire investigator is trying to figure out. he believes the fire started on the back end of this car. you can see where it melted the tires completely off and also where the flames lapped up the front of the house. now the investigator has been trying to pry open the hood to get a better look and determine exactly how the fire started. this fire and another broke out within one block of each other around 1:00 in the morning. someone called in the first fire saying that the flames were very close to the house. police drove by another fire that was along the way. officials believe the two blazes may be connected. >> the second fire we initially had reports of individuals trapped in the building. fortunately they were able to because it was right next to the front door but they were able to extinguish the fire so there is no hazard or injury to the residence. >> reporter: again no one was hurt in either of those

tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: the doctors say stow's condition has improved. he's breathing without a ventilator and he's also been waned -- weaned off the medication. but they say this does not mean he will make a full recovery. >> he's began to open his eyes. he's started to have movement of his left arm and he's intermittently been able to follow some simple commands. >> reporter: he says in a couple of months surgeons will replace the portion of the skull they had to remove because of brain surgery. doctors believe stow might have not survived this injury had it happened ten years ago. but medical advances have made it possible. with these types of injuries more and more each year, more funding is needed. >> there's insufficient funding. >> reporter: now, stow came to sfo may 16th after being transferred from an l.a. hospital. the 4-year-old paramedic, father of two, was brutally beaten outside of giants' stadium. geovany ramirez was given time in jail for possession of a gun, a parole violation. is. ktvu's tar ray moriarty explains what happened in the courtroom. tara? >> reporter: we spoke briefly with the teacher's defense attorney outside the santa clara county courthouse. the next court appearance is july 8 when his client is scheduled to enter a plea. 28-year-old colette phelps quietly left, flank by her defense attorney and another man. the middle-school teacher is accused of molesting one of her own students. >> she is deeply embarrassed to be in this situation and it's a matter that out of the respect of the privacy of the people list in the police report and ms. phelps she does not want to comment and respect that privacy. >> do you understand that? >> yes. >> reporter: phelps is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a 14-year- old boy. the student attended the private stratford school in san jose where she worked for the last five years. we spoke to police this morning, who say they have to have some evidence or proof in order to file such serious charges. >> when an officer arrests a person, the officer must have what i
