tara moriarty is live in oakland on how bay area transit agencies plan on handling them but first let's go to claudine where there are more preparations underway. good morning claudine. >> that is right, we are here between market and mission and it is already busy and you can see they have put up the barricades on that side of the street. you can see the latest truck filled with barricades to make it into this area. this is where everybody will be getting ready to roll down market street and i have to tell you it is already busy this morning this. area will be shut down at about 9:00 and there are crews all over the city that will be checking it out. we stop by on our way over here to check out the activity and there is no way you are getting through because that area is shut down and perhaps is well underway and it does not look like anybody slept last night. we did find a few giants fans and we asked them about coming so early. >> we rented a hotel, staying in the continental, so. >> what time did your alarm go off last night? >> you were worried you would not get a good spot? >> yes

tara moriarty is just getting there at the scene with a look at what is happening. >> reporter: yeah we are here in west portal at a restaurant called the squat and gobble. we just arrived on scene. this just went to a three alarm fire. this is on the main drag here of west portal. it is right across the street from the west portal muni station. so the service we're not sure exactly if it's going to be cut off. we have noticed a couple of the lines going through. but we understand that traffic could definitely be impacted at least for the next 30 minutes or so. now when we first arrived there was a heavy amount of smoke coming from that awning right above the squat and gobble. you can still see they have their hoses and water being sprayed on it. it looks like they have the situation under control now. they are actually going in next door. there is a business located next door where the fire crews are gaining access. they are probably going to be breaking down some wall there is to let the fire breathe. you can see there is smoke coming from the windows of that build

tara moriarty it live on the latest of a manhunt of the suspect. what do we know? >> reporter: one woman is in custody here at the mission police station and two male suspects are still on the loose. all three left behind a car, a gun and a cell phone that was dropped on the sidewalk as they were trying to run away. the trio was driving on 101 northbound. they shot at an under cover inspector driving an unmarked compact car. that car now has two bullet holes in it. one striking very close to where the officer was sitting. luckily he wasn't hurt. it all happened around 1:30 this morning as we said the inspector driving northbound near the cesar chavez exit he noticed a gray sedan looked suspicious. he ran a license plate, the people inside of that car fired at him. >> he wasn't injured thankfully. >> how many shots did they fire at the officer? >> he said there were multiple rounds fired at him. >> reporter: the sergeant, the inspector did not return fire. he alert other units. it ended at bryant where three suspects jumped out and running. even though the officer w

ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from oakland where there are still a lot of questions surrounding this protest and the police response. tara? >> reporter: well, a lot of people that we spoke to said they didn't see any police out here. we did put a call into the oakland police department. but we've not heard back yet. these anti-war protesters went on a rampage. this is the oakland tribune building where they smashed paint balls and they broke some windows and then as we sort of pan over here to the left. these are the offices for the berkeley lab and there is a surveillance camera perched up here where vandals struck and police will be taking a look at that video. now, this morning, crews power sprayed the paint off the tribune building but the other two windows on the be as easy to fix. we're told it will cost $6,000 to replace them. this began at 6:00 last night. about 200 people gathered at frank ogawa plaza in the evening. they timed this to the estart of the war in afghanistan. the demonstrators went on a march. and when they circled back to city hall, they struck three banks

tara moriarty is live now with information on the condition of the shooting victim and tara, you say there may be a connection to another exchange of gunfire in that area? >> reporter: that is right. that just happened only two days ago. so police are trying to put the puzzle pieces the pieces of the puzzle together right now. we're standing in front of police headquarters where we understand two witnesses to the shooting were brought in for questioning. we don't have all of the details about how exactly this shooting unfolded but what we do know is around quartzer to 2:00 this morning gunfire erupted in the area south of market street on sixth and stevenson. police believe there was a shootout between at least two people. we don't know how many casing were found on the ground but two different types of them were discovered at the scene. one matching bullet found in the victims body. the other matching the ones found in the victims pockets. now that victim was driven to san francisco general hospital by a friend at the scene and we understand he has under gone surgery and listed in c

ktvu tara moriarty joins us now with a look at what is happening and what commuters should know. >> reporter: all the muni lines through the west portal area are not operating. that is the k, l, and the m. also on west portal avenue all of the businesses have been told to be shut down until 10:00 this morning. we just got word from police. and they say that none of those businesses will be allowed to open and serve people until 10:00 this morning. now this fire is still an active one. you can see behind me they are still trying to attack the flames from the ladder. this is obviously going to be quite a headache this morning for people that live in this area. for than 100 firefighters now on scene fighting the flames. this is a very stubborn fire. crews have been working it since 5:00 this morning when someone called to report it on. we're on west portal avenue. right in front of the west portal muni station. the chief says it's too early to tell if it started in the kitchen and was a flue fire. crews had to cut walls out to let the fire breathe and get up on the ladder to attack.

let's go to tara moriarty who joins us live with a look at the firefight still underway. tara? >> reporter: cau -- claudine, this is a really stubborn fire. crews have been battling this for two hours. you can see the roof collapsed. as a result, all muni lines through west portal are shut down, the k, l and m. that's going to cause a traffic nightmare this morning. more than 100 firefighters are on the scene fighting these flames. the call came in from a passerby at 5:00 a.m. we're in front of the west portal union station. it started at the gobble restaurant and spread to an orthodontist's office. we'll have to wait for arson investigators to figure out what happened. crews cut walls out to let the fire breathe so they could attack it from up above. >> it seems like it got out of control at one point. was it? >> accessing it was difficult. and then it extended to a greater alarm, a third alarm. >> reporter: this is actually the chief neighborhood for police and firefighters. they are all kind of shaking their heads because this is where they come. no trains going through the

tara moriarty is here to tell us how the victim got to the hospital. >> tara?> well, ballistics was actually testing bullet casings from the scene as well as another one that happened just half a block from this one. they are trying to see -- to see if they are connected. they brought two people down to be questioned. we have heard that around quarter to 2:00 a.m., gunfire erupted in the area south of market on 6th and stevenson, investigators believe there was a shootout -- shoot different guns were apparently used. one had bullets matching. he's undergone surgery at san francisco general hospital where his friend drove him in the suv. that car seized as evidence. that discovery made -- wondered whether he played a role in the shooting. we've learned that the suspect drove off none a tale-colored explorer -- teal-colored explorer. back to you. >>> in about two hours, alameda county investigators will reveal more details about the murder of par bra lackley. lackley lived with her -- barbara lackley. we'll have a full update on the news at noon. >>> police are l

tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. we've seen some of the parade floats. we're gonna show them to new just a minute. we are -- these are the barricades going up apartment 9:30. we're here along market street. this is where the parade route is and there's already excitement building in the air. the last time around in 2010 an estimated million fans turned up to the ticker tape parade. they expect that same number this year. thousands may be skipping out on work and school to see history repeated. we met up with one fan who missed the parade last time. this year he's dressing up and will be here. >> this is my first time. i mean, i'm just in love. it's so exciting. i was there. so happy. yesterday, everybody was happy. everybody smiling. what's -- i hope every day will be like that. >> reporter: now, we did get a sneak peek at some of the parade floats and float builders have used up to a mile of orange and black sheeting. in the last parade, the giants' players rose in cable cars. but this year, they will be in converti

ktvu tara moriarty is live at san francisco general hospital. you know what happened also there is a police search for a suspect. tara. >> reporter: that is right. and when we first arrived here at san francisco general hospital we noticed a bunch of the victims friends standing outside waiting to hear word about his condition. would you know he's in critical and his friend drove him here. we understand that he was shot in the face as well as twice in the side. now the friend that drove him here that car was parked in the emergency drop off for more than two hours and then police just had that vehicle towed for evidence. that is because doctors found two types of bullets in the victims pocket. so they are investigating whether he was one of the shooters this morning. it all unfolded south of market street son sixth and stevenson about 20 minutes to 2:00 this morning. police believe there was a shootout. we don't know how many casings were found but two different types of them were discovered at the scene. one matching the bullet found in the vict

tara moriarty is live at city hall in oakland. one of the many buildings protestors vandalized last night. >> reporter: yes some of the windows that protestors smashed have been bordered up at this time. but there is still a hole here in the front door of city hall that remains exactly as it was last night. demonstrators threw paint balls and smashed windows at city hall. the national berkeley lab office and three banks. the group of about 200 people gathered at frank ogawa plaza last night. they timed the rally to coincide with the 11th anniversary of the start of the war in afghanistan. around 7:15 the group headed north on west grand avenue. circled back to city hall and that is when the violence broke out. some luxury cars were also vandalized. >> just because we have a nice car, i don't know. we worked hard for our money. >> we live in oakland and to see our hometown come to shambles like this. >> reporter: the march only lasted 40 minutes and that did not give police enough time to call in mutual aid or make enough arrests.

tara moriarty is live with the latest on a manhunt to find the suspects. >> reporter: several inspectors were combing over a car that was parked in the middle of the streets here. it had two bullet holes on the side of it. one of them on the driver side. the reason it's such significance to officers, it's under cover police vehicle. here's what we're know, around 1:30 this morning the undercover sergeant was in plain clothes. he noticed that a car looks suspicious, he ran the license plate and all of a sudden people started firing at him. the car ended up several blocks away. the sergeant was able to detain one woman. officers say it's unknown why the suspects shot at the sergeant. >> he wasn't injured thankfully. >> how many shots they fired at the officer? >> we don't know specifically. i can see two rounds. >> reporter: the suspect's car was parked down the street here on bryant street. it was just towed away. around the corner here on 2rd is where -- 23rd is where the suspect dropped the gun. a woman has been taken to mission station and other two male suspects are still on the loose

tara moriarty joins us now from outside city hall with a break down of the vote and reaction from all sides. tara. >> reporter: mayor ed lee needed nine of the 11 supervisors in order to out mirkarimi but only seven voted to do so. the fact that john airflows and compo may not have come as a surprise but jane kim and christina that came as a shocker to many. >> given that motion required nine votes in order to pass the motion does not approve. the charges are not sustained.
