ktvu tara moriarty just a run down the scene. joins us on the phone with more on how this may have started with a kidnapping. tara. >> reporter: we are off river road in guerneville where there is a heavy law enforcement presence here. we're being kept several hundred yards back from the crime scene. a deputy told me there is so much evidence to process here. there is a very wide area quarantined off. last night around 11:00 there was a kidnapping. we have heard reports that a woman texted someone. she was being held hostage in a car. she was able to provide the vehicle description. they spotted the car. a high speed chase began for a half hour. it led sonoma county sheriffs deputies through sebastopol and ended in guerneville. he ran through a gate and damaged several properties and ended up in a ditch. the rumor is he was shot and killed but authorities will not confirm. meanwhile we understand the female victim in this case is physically doing very well. live from guerneville i'm tara moriarty. >>> time now 5:02. we have develo

ktvu's tara moriarty is at san mateo medical center right now telling us about this two-hour stand off, how it started and ended. tara? >> reporter: well, i spoke to a hospital worker who said drama does not happen at the san mateo medical center. it's situated in a very quiet residential neighborhood. all of that changed last night just before 11:00 when a patient apparently became disgruntled inside the e.r., flashed a knife and barricaded himself inside a room. police and fire surrounded the area and could even see him through a ladder through a window where he set a small fire inside. workers were evacuated to other floors as a precaution. >> i heard all of the sirens, commotions, about 20, 25 squad cars flying by with their sirens going. i see a number of police officers running around the hospital with their firearms out. >> reporter: a police negotiators talked with the man, got him to surrender within two hours. the fire was confined to the one room and cautioned minimal damage. privacy rules prevent reporting the suspect and what it that set hem him off -- set him off. we unde

ktvu tara moriarty joins us now on the phone with more of this latest information from the sheriffs deputies. tara. >> the sheriffs mobile crime lab unit pulled up moments ago. we're off highway 116. a few minutes from downtown guerneville. we are being kept several hundred yards back from the crime scene. i'm told it's spread out over quite a large area. the deputies have confirmed last night around 11:00. there was indeed a kidnapping. a woman texted a friend who relayed information to the san rafael police department. they in turn provided the information to sonoma county dispatch. the woman texted she had been sexually assaulted and being held hostage in a car. she was able to provide a vehicle description and the direction the car was headed. within minutes the deputies spotted the car in west santa rosa in and a high speed chase began lasting for a half hour. deputies actually tried to laying spike strips but the suspect was able to evade them. the man allegedly drove through a gate off odd fellows park road in river side drive damaging several cabin properties along the way. he ended

but they say many are still contracting tuberculosis tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: good afternoon. the number of tb cases in san francisco has jumped 20%. that was the figure from last year. 20% higher than two years before. so obviously a concern to officials so here at city college they wanted to get the word out that tb anywhere is tb everywhere. today, this morning, the city department of public health did free testing in honor of world tb day which is sunday. the last time we saw a spike the cases in san francisco was in the '90s when doctors say the funding cuts and the a.i.d.s. epidemic led to tb ed having. tb is spread from person to person through the air when a person from tb cuff coughs. some people develop the disease that even with treatment can be deadly. >> california reports the most tuberculosis in the nation. we have more tb cases than the two next top states, new york and texas combined. every four hours in california, we have a new californian diagnosed with tuberculosis. >> reporter: now, we spoke to one man who was diagnosed with the disease last year. he say
