ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty joins us from san francisco where some of the boats just left thecks. tara. >> reporter: we have seen a couple of stragglers here. everybody pretty much left around 4:00. in 15 minutes they will drop the traps to try to catch the crabs. there was a one day delay in the opening of the season. that is because crabbers agreed to have the creaturers tested to see if they were plump enough. they were worried they did not grow enough in their shell. they are shooting for 25% to be meat and it turns out crabs from half-moon bay and san francisco are weighing in about 27%. >> i can't wait. i'm excited. it makes an old man go. anticipation. a lot of crab out there. >> it has more yellows and butter. see how the colors change. >> reporter: the agreed wholesale price is $1.75 a pound. market price will depend on how much crab is caught this season. the crab industry says it's looking for a bonanza season that runs from now until june. these are the nets and we were speaking to a worker that said most of the people are out there right now. out on the waters. th

as ktvu's tara moriarty reports, many crabbers leaving port this morning are hopeful for a very strong season. >> reporter: at:00 this morning, pier 45 was -- at 4:00 this morning, pier 45 was bustling. >>> we already set one set of gear, 400 pots and then we'll do 400 more. been up for -- i don't know, 24 hours now. probably be up another 20 hours. >> reporter: crab fishermen are setting hundreds of trap to kick off the season. >> the boats went out this morning to drop -- to drop the pots. >> reporter: max is hopeful for this season. >> i think it will be a lot better than last year. the crabs were almost to the point where they were illegal. they couldn't bring them in. >> reporter: the season started one day late because the department of fish and game wanted to te and weigh the crab from bodega bay to half moon bay. they wanted to make sure the crustations had enough meat on them. and now that the green light is on, he's itching to haul his catch. >> ready to make money and have some fun. >> reporter: industry insiders say this year's crab could be set at did $1.75. crab fishermen

ktvu tara moriarty is live in berkeley with more on where the police say this suspect is heading. >> reporter: around this same time berkeley police were called to this neighborhood after hearing a report of a home invasion and rape. we're here off of evelyn street. that's where authorities believe 27-year-old omar sosa had broken into an unlocked bedroom window and sexually assaulted a young girl. police say they wouldn't have been able to identify sosa without the victims help. >> you want to talk about someone's salient every -- valiant efforts it's her. >> reporter: authorities have good reason to believe that sosa is trying to escape into mexico. he may be driving a gray 1997 ford ranger pickup truck. it's a double cab with a white camper shell. officials do not have a license plate number at this time. berkeley detectives have alerted law enforcement from the bay area down to the mexico border. as for the victim she was treated at a hospital and released. meanwhile sosa will face charges ranging from burglary to said my and rape. >>> there is snow on some of the bay area highes
