tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> the clock is ticking on whether the supreme court will make a decision on two cases, defense search marriage act and voters approved bans on gay marriages. we will talk about what we can expect when that decision comes down. >> well the anticipation can't be understated but what it ultimately boils down to, the supreme court will make a decision today or sometime early next week as they end the session early next month. they will make the decisions on thursday only and it comes down 7:00 a.m. our time so we are keeping a close eye on that. the supreme court could uphold proposition 8 which could make it illegal and it will lead to gay marriages because of a lower court ruling and third it could strike it down on a narrow ruling which could lead to it going in the state and it could deny gay marriages as unconstitutional. whether a decision comes down today or not, we spoke with a wedding planner who said she noticed more interests. >> i have got an few more calls where people are seeming to have that hope and to get that completely finali

ktvu channel 2 news. >>> we are also following developing news out of oakland this morning. tara moriarty is live with what police are saying and hoping will lead to an arrest in a triple shooting outside of a club that is just a few blocks from city hall. tara. >> reporter: two security cameras are wedged up in the corners of that bar. and they are hoping police are hoping that they provide clues z to who is exactly responsible for the shooting. we are walking down the sidewalk here because bullets were sprayed all along this sidewalk. one hit this furniture store. around 12:45 a male security guard and two women were shot outside the shadow ultra lounge. they were taken by ambulance to the hospital with nonthreatenings. >> i parentally there was some sort of verbal argument inside the party. they were asked to leave. shortly after the group left is when the shots rang out. >> reporter: hours after the shooting police were still scouring the scene for evidence. a woman inside the bar described the mayhem to us. we will tell you how she helped the woman coming up. live in oakland i'm tara

live from antioch, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> in san jose, the two suspects chargedwith shooting and killing two high school students will be back in court today. 19-year-old mathew clippard and a 17-year-old boy are accused in the may 26th shooting of two men. investigators say there was a confrontation before the suspects opened fire. police do not believe the killing is gang related. >>> a 23-year-old man was arrested in fremont accused of kidnapping a teenaged girl and threatening to rape her. police say aaron kumar roy hid in the back seat of the 16-year- old's girl at the brookdale shopping center on fremont boulevard on monday. when the girl came back to her car, police say he forced her at knife point to drive to a remote area. but the teenager managed to escape and get help. they identified roy from a fingerprint found on the girl's car. injured giant's fan bryan stow is back at home in santa cruz county after his company stopped paying for his rehabilitation. he was getting 24-hour care at a facility in bakersfield. his family says they are very happy he's

ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live from oakland police headquarters. you have details about a mobile command unit. tara? >> reporter: yeah, it can be used not only to fight crime but to prevent it and yesterday afternoon, opd rolled out the mobile command unit for the first time in order to target robbers. >> let's say we've got a crime going on here. you can actually say, okay, i want a unit over here. >> reporter: we got an exclusive look inside the unit where police can map out strategies for nabbing suspects. it also has a camera perched on top which police say is not only a visual deterrent. it has the capabilities to catch criminals in the act and monitor activity within a four- block radius, important since police say robberies have jumped to 30% last year. the rockridge and grand lake neighborhoods, two spots where thieves are notorious for snatching items. >> i can say there is a robbery in progress and send units there. >> it kind of brings the police station out to the community. we can do everything done from a dispatch and police unit. >>

ktvu tara moriarty joins us now from the crash scene. tara. >> reporter: a tow truck is taking one of those squad cars away. these are vehicles from the contra costa county sheriffs department. they are loading it on that flat bed there. this is because the two cars got stuck in ice plants after a high speed chase. it happened around 3:45 this morning. two contra costa county sheriffs deputies noticed a black lexus without plates. now the driver led them on a chase into berkeley and after 11 minutes of pursuit they ended up here on 80 westbound just past the university avenue exit. the lexus drove into the brush. so there is a little bit of a fire out here. unfortunately the lexus driver got away. right now traffic is sort of crawling 80 westbound. this is typical for this hour. i don't know if this particular accident impacted traffic too much. if you pan over to the left you can see it just starts to pick up here past this accident. so we will continue to stay out here and let you know how traffic improves throughout the morning. live

ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from antioch where she's been talking to neighbors about how they are dealing with this. good afternoon, tara. >> reporter: good afternoon. you know, over just an -- over a seven-hour stretch there were outbreaks. some neighbors say they are taking a unique approach to tackling crime. karen peterson takes her scanner with her everywhere. she says in her now crime- ridden neighborhood it's almost a necessity. >> before i go, i will listen to the scanner to see if the coast is clear. >> reporter: she and her husband live one lane over from horseshoe circle where a 70- year-old man was killed last night. the suspect taking off in the victim's gold bmw. >> we were all in shock. kind of gives me goose bumps. at 12:30 there was another homicide. a 21-year-old man killed. seven hours before and close by another shooting and police chase and an armed robbery at a grocery store. >> it's frightening. it's just so frightening. you know, there's no freedom. it's gone. >> reporter: peterson's husband even installed security cameras for the protection. >> the top

ktvu tara moriarty joining us live from outside that house and you've been talking to one of the fire victims. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. it wasn't a smoke detector but an airline ticket that possibly saved ada clark's life. she was going to get up at midnight to go online. when she got up she smelled smoke and called 911. they believe this fire started in the basement and quickly spread into the attic. 18 firefighters responded to the home scene had flames under control in under 20 minutes. clark says she initially called 911 after smelling the smoke. when she turned on the lights in her living room she smelled the smoke and called 911 again. >> they told me to get out. it was coming out of the walls. it looked like from downstairs. >> reporter: firefighters had to break down her garage door and poke holes in the roof to fight the fire. the damage has forced her out of her house. she told us she will stay with some friends in the meantime. coming up we will tell you what the investigator believed sparked this fire next. live in berkeley i'm tara moriarty. >>> inve

ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live now to tell us what happened and how that fire started. >> reporter: well, the high- speed chase started in el sobrante and then the suspect made a sharp turn coming off this offramp on university avenue. he made this turn through this foliage, went about 80 yards through all of this ice plant. the sheriff's deputies followed him. you can see where it's all torn up here. that's where the cars got stuck. but then, the suspect ended up getting right back on 80 and got away. two flat bed tow trucks just hauled away both squad cars. one of them -- one of them a total loss. two contra costa sheriff deputies noticed a black lexus with no plates in el sobrante out on castro ranch road. when they tried to pull over the driver, he sped off an led deputies on an 11-minute chase into berkeley. the deputies got stuck in ice plants. >> it appears to me that the exhaust systems of the patrol cars cut this foliage on fire which then caught the patrol cars on fire. >> reporter: the exhaust systems appear to have ignited the brush. the one car sustained a lot of fire

tara moriarty. >>> back to our breaking news in san jose. where police are investigating a fatal crash ktvu janine de la vega is at the scene. that is pearl avenue where a driver plowed into several parked cars. janine. >> reporter: pam, the accident investigation team just arrived in the last 20 minutes. and you can see they are behind me here at the intersection of pearl avenue and hills dale. police just blocked off pearl avenue at capital expressway. you can see here on the scene there is still a bunch of mangled cars and the body of the passenger laying on the sidewalk. the driver of a toyota avlon was speeding along pearl avenue and lost control and plowed into a row of five parked cars. two of them were totaled. the 18-year-old male driver was rushed to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. police say what they found in the car gave them a clue as to what the man in the car was doing right before the crash. >> based on the speed of the vehicle and the fact we found numerous beer cans inside the vehicle we believe alcohol is a factor in this one. in a traffic investigation y

ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> we are getting new information about that tragic dog attack on a 6-year-old boy, it happened at home where the child lived with his grandparents. tara moriarty has been talking to neighbors out there who tell her the little boy has died, tara? >> reporter: we still have not seen anybody come in or out of the house and we have spoken to neighbors and they say they could hear screams and cries coming from the backyard at the home yesterday morning and of course they did not realize a deadly attack occurred. in fact the dog was a friendly dog and they had seen the dog walking without a leash so a lot of them expressed surprise. this happened at 11:30 elizabeth way, yesterday morning he was rushed to packerred hospital at stamford and we are told he died because he lost too much blood. he lived in this house along with several cousins in his grandparent's house, firefighters even had a rough time with this response given the age of the child and there are also other children who witnessed the attack. they are expected to release more details later this morning and we are hearing reports that, that dog involved in the attack and another dog were
