taylor: that is the topic of today's bloomberg big take. we've collected and here to walk us through the highlights -- the highlight certainly was inflation being the big concern. covid-19, almost nothing. what stood out for you? >> it seem like that was the thing to focus on -- inflation. this was a gigantic effort, they went throughout 500 outlooks. inflation was mentioned 224 times where's covid was only mentioned 36 times. inflation is clearly the key risk in 2020 and every outlook bloomberg looked at, inflation was an outlook -- an element in every scenario. romaine: inflation continues to be on top of everyone's mind and as you talk about inflation, you have to talk about the fed, monetary policy and whether jerome powell made some sort of policy mistake. what do people think? katie: fidelity said the margin for error will be fine, leaving the stakes high. that's the tight rope they are trying to walk, trying to get inflation, which wall street and everyone else is worried about right now, trying to get that under control and balance

taylor: and here we are.n the impact of the chip shortage and auto industry, we do it all with jessica caldwell. talk to us if you can about that. our previous guest said price and range and batteries will be some of the key points. our prices maybe a hang up? as you think about the masses? >> definitely. it started a high. if you look at the market is it -- it is at price points that most people aren't comfortable paying. a lot of them are over $100,000, even the silverado, the consumer version is over $1000. the price continues to be an issue. people want it to be the same price as what they are used to paying. prices have increased a lot, especially over the past year because of the chip shortage. people are getting used to paying more for their vehicles, but if you think about everything involved with and ev, you have to figure out whether you want a home charging station which will cost more money, or figure out those logistical issues. the cost could be more than just the vehicle. people get a bit salty

taylor: let's talk about that. if you are global in heaven economy of scale with reach, you can handle this better than anyone. are you seeing companies that are bigger, global in scale, able to weather the storm, diverging from the ones who just aren't able to do it? anne: one thing that is unique about the semi conductor value chain is that it is very consolidated in terms of who offers what service. looking across each aspect there really are only a few suppliers there globally supplying these chips to all these different industries. scale definitely helps in these supply chain conversations if you are bigger as opposed to a smaller player but part of this is there are so many different types of chips produced on so many different types of technologies, what an automotive company needs might be very different from what a leading edge data center might need. there is a lot of shared capacity that is unique, which is what makes things pervasive right now. scale helps but i think your supply chain strategy helps as

taylor: we are glad you are clarifying it. an analyst note i read excited your data, and we asked about it being underrepresented in the way it is calculated, and i got multiple, scaling emails. we are glad you are clarifying the difference in the way the calculations go. talk about the discrepancy you see with the new rents that you have talked about, maybe an 18% increase, and those who stayed in place, and are they getting a rent increase, albeit at a lower rate? chris: yeah, so i think there are two components of this. one is that rents are normally locked in for at least 12 months over the course of a lease, and in any given month, most americans are not going to see their rent change because they did not move and the existing lease did not come up for renewal. most americans are going to see on a month to month basis no rent change, and for folks who stayed in place and maybe renew a lease, in some cases, many folks will see their rent increase, but we definitely see that lease renewals tend to have much lower increases

taylor: i think about the long-term strategy.ve huge private equity firms that can keep balance sheets with fintech if they want to be. how then does a bank stay competitive, if all of that is happening on the outside? cheryl: i think it is the differentiation of the leading models. we see a lot of community banks that have specific landing -- lending niches, just more businesses or dental practices. it carves out a competitive advantage for themselves within that space. that is not to see we -- say we don't see value across financials. that is predicated on positive fundamentals. there is room for the banks to grow and take share. the footprint and execution is the key along with the strategy. caroline: do you want to get into financially focused investment? cheryl: we are very positive on fixed income side as well. we like subordinated debt on the bank side. we think there is excess yield to be had there. we like the very short duration of the strategy. i think that is really critical in moving into a higher rate environment. w
