that's a good area for digging into technical standards. there's this concern that if you standardize too early then you're missing out on good ideas that are still coming down the pipe because the area is still new. but it can also really accelerate process in the field. i'm personally a robotics person. giving an example that ties into the open source point. the nominal middle ware standard was when the robot operating system was introduced, that created not only a standard in the open source community for how you build robot systems so you can reuse everything. it used to be prior to that you had the recreate, you had to write it yourself. if you want to build a sensor interpretation system that was able to understand a camera image of some sort, you had to build it yourself. but robot operating system allowed the community to come together and interchange all those parts that the community had built so now we can all work together and accelerate the field. i think very critically defined and critically important areas of standards work
