about north carolina senate, where we got as cheri beasley, the democrat and republican congressman ted buddth two thirds of the vote in right now. the story here mainly has been, if you've been following all night, you know this. the malveaux, the early vote, was the first reported out. a lot of these big democratic areas came out particularly quickly. cheri beasley let the tally until moments ago. part of that is we get a vote of union county. unique county of charlotte, mecklenburg county, or democratic county. union county, right outside of it, is equal republican county. you see ted budd, in fact, with the update, yeah, you are seeing he's exceeding the trump number. you get that early mail for report out and a place like union county, and it's going to be as good as it gets for democrats generally, and maybe the low water mark for republicans. you start adding in same-day vote, numbers get better for republicans, worse for democrats. this is a crucial benchmark and a place like union county, if you're ted budd in this race. trump won north carolina very close race, just 75,000 votes in

, ted budd one.s a mixed bag with to do more analysis. what is really shocking on all of the top four issues that voters cared about. republicans had an advantage going in, economy, inflation, crime, education first time ever republicans led on education we did not have the night i thought we were going to have. maria: i was surprised at the border communities, mayra flores has run a strong campaign. the border is a huge issue and yet did people not come out. >> i don't know if it was internet differential or not. i'm scratching my head with the rio grande valley but i tell you i still think we're going to take back the house it just won't be with the 230 that we thought we were in a probably be in the mid to 20s. i still think kevin mccarthy become speaker and i tell you this 1% of the republican conference in the house that can navigate a small majority it's kevin mccarthy. i'm still optimistic about us moving forward. >> row click on priorities here in the appropriations committee were focused on

but look at where ted budd's campaign is focused right now. he has a 37.6% lead on election day vote and 95.6% of it still is waiting to be counted, jake. so, obviously, the budd folks are saying, hey, a huge advantage category for us and nothing in the overall vote is election day vote. >> that is an important point to make. and so -- i just popped this out. this is live outstanding votes. a lot of votes missing in raleigh, charlotte, winston-salem. the democrats are leading now. in places with where ted budd won't pass cheri beasley, david's point about so much day of votes still being out there, that's where he narrows the margins. when that vote comes in, like we saw in 2020 as the polling indicates it will come in this year, you also see all of these medium-size, moderate-sized and smaller-sized red circles. a ton of outstanding vote in the republican areas of north carolina that will be election day vote and that will be disproportionately, you know, ted budd is leading in these places. pop one up. take a peek. union county he is leading

and it's really, you know, again people say this is ted budd's race to lose.ep on north carolina. because of just all of the sort of unknown factors here. this is steve a really interesting state and with all the new voters and undecided unaffiliated voters here i think there's going to be some interesting information we get closer to tuesday. >> in north carolina, also be interesting just because the poll closing time, 7:30 and a report out a ton of votes very quickly usually in north carolina. again it could be one of those early indicators from north carolina we head west to the silver state, nevada. catherine cortez masto, democratic incumbent, trying to hold on against republican adam laxalt. in the trump era, the state of nevada moved in the republican direction. you see biden won it. blue state in 2020. about two and a half points. pretty much the same as it was in 2016 but looked before trump came along, we were starting to think of nevada as something getting close to a safely blue state barack obama won it by seven points in his reelection in 2012. a

you recently spoke with republican nominee, the congressman, ted budd.d he have to say ahead of election day? >> right now, congressman is really focused on inflation and the economy. those the issues that republicans believe already winning issues for them when it comes to voters here. when i talk to people consistently, it is a inflation in the economy, it is abortion. what he is doing right now, literally right now, he is out knocking on doors. he is trying to get people to participate in the early voting. he wants to make sure they show up on tuesday. i was with him in the western part of the state. this is a friendly area. there are a lot of rural counties. it was plus 36 for trump. you know, friendly. he was talking to people in many cases. he was voting for them. he tried to remind them to get friends and families who had been on the sidelines through the midterms. as you mentioned, there is rate has been closer than republicans thought it was going to be. he is not taking anything for granted. with abortion as the second issue, it is a winning is

democrats have thought it might be the sleeper race for them, ted budd, the republican, against sherry beasley, the democrat. it is an open seat. there is no incumbent running. is this a chance for democrats or not? scott: i thought over the summer it could have been. he is a trump guy, but not a crazy trump guy, but he has not raised any money. here you have one of the key states like north carolina, on labor day, the budd campaign was not even on the air. unheard of. every candidate goes on the air on labor day in every state, even in kansas. this surprised me because i thought it would become a race. beasley has not come out of the blocks very well, the democrat running, and i think budd is a winner. just the flow of -- gerald: does the flow of money into the state suggest other people are drawing that conclusion as well? scott: mcconnell has put $30 million or $35 million into this race. gerald: he recognizes they are not going to run a competent campaign, so if anybody owes a debt to him after election day, it is ted budd. scott: they have raised half a billion dollars, and they h

this was ted budd's district, ted budd running for the senate, it got dramatically redrawn. went from being core republican district to one that biden under these new lines actually would've carried by two points. if you follow that rule, that matt rule hines needs to be running a couple ahead points ahead of trump, in the counties here. you take a look at it here, he is out here in wayne county. he is not, john's county is a big one. he is not running ahead of the trump number, and his two points ahead of it, in harnett county. then you start getting into this, is where democrats have their best chance here to get the sea. wake county. still a lot of vote to come and weigh county. look at that. it's already better than 2 to 1 advantage for wiley nickel here. this is a core democratic county. this is an opportunity here. why i'm much in the ted but piece of it is that if wiley nickel wins this, mathematically in terms of the counting, bouncing diligence for control of the house, this would be a democratic gain. it would be a net gain if democrats are able to win the seat. >>
