republicans ted chris and rand paul have announced their running, eight other republicans are vying. senator marco rubio planning what he calls a big announcement in florida tomorrow and a handful of democrats are also waiting in the wings. the question is who will be the first to challenge hillary clinton. we turn to our senior washington correspondent jeff zeleny. you will not get much sleep for the next more than a year it's interesting that it's all about very main street americans. >> poppy, of course that was by design. it was to sent a message that look this is about you, it's not about me. it's not about my political ambitions, my aspirations. it's about your dreams your hopes, so this video is very much by design to send what her campaign hopes is a tone for this campaign that it's different from her first bid for the white house, that it's not about this long-held wish for her, it's about lifting up the middle class. it is a tapestry of american diversity there, and that of course at the end she finally comes up but this is the easy part poppy. what comes now is the harder

he's got to take on ted cruz somehow and neutralize him, and vice versa, ted chris has got to try to neutralize him? >> i think there's no doubt that he and ted cruz occupy some of the same space. i think kasie is right he hasn't tacked as hard to the right in invite social issues at least what he spent most of him time talking about. i think he's more known for his libertarian views on some of the issues. i think it will be interesting. he has a tougher path than say a marco rubio, scott walker or just about bush. his biggest concern will be those coming at him from the right on national security and if that continues to be a growing and important issue, as it looks like it will be in the republican primaries. if it gets even more important, he'll become more quickly marginalized. he clearly has the ability, appealing to younger people to expand this electoral. the question isn't whether he would win a rub primary as staged four years ago, but can he, in a place like iowa new hampshire or south carolina or nevada can he broaden that electorate to bring in enough people that changes t

if he performs in the primary, if he beats jeb bush, chris christie ted cruz, and ran call -- rand paul formidable political figures, he will come out of the primary looking like he has tremendous gravitas. he has the tomorrow message combined with a guy who, like barack obama, gained a lot in 2007 2008 by defeating hillary clinton. he came onto the stage in the fall of 2008 looking like he had tremendous gravitas, because he had been through a brutal primary. john: i want to get mark's views on this. i know you have not done your grades yet, but your quick overview on what you thought you saw here today? mark: very strong and right on the message you would want to be on. my instinct is, doing it when he did it, right after he -- after hillary clinton, at 6:00 at night eastern time, i am not sure he is going to get quite the attention of the senators who announced preceding him. big part of what these announcements are about is to raise money off of them. insiders know him. he is still trying to introduce himself. a very well-written speech, i thought. maybe better written than delivere

ted cruz and then, you know rand paul. chris christie. even on the bottom of all this.t do you make of scott scott walker's emergence in this particular poll? >> it's very important. we have five or six very important governors in this race. we have a strong field. for walker to move to the forefront shows people recognize the tremendous job he's done as governor. ran three times in four years. put back the labor unions and replenished the economy of that state. my sense is he has a great story to tell. best line he said, this is what i've done. he'll be one of the two or three credible candidates. >> the story is a little bit different here. if you look at the polling. our polling versus hillary clinton versus jeb bush. this is where jeb bush emerges over mr. walker. as you can see they're even. tied at 45%. are they still betting on a bush/clinton race? >> obviously if you go to the general public independents, maybe more inclined to vote for hillary. over time obviously, that will change. cheryl: and i've heard lou said this before. the g.o.p. could easily screw this
