joining me is democratic congressman ted deutch of florida who introduced the new amendment. he's the ranking member of the ethics committee and serves on the judiciary and foreign affairs committees. the move by the republicans was to get the office of government ethics into your committee. you didn't even agree with that. tell us how important this amendment is and what your republican colleagues had to s about it. >> sure. well, thanks for having me on. the office of government ethics is the body that's tasked with overseeing the ethics in the executive branch. and our judiciary committee in the house, in our rules, has a provision to provide some general oversight. that's not good enough in light of what we've seen coming out of the administration. it's not enough just to watch over it. we have to defend it when it is challenged, and it has been challenged by the president and others both in word and in the actions that require oge investigations. we have to be very serious about this. that's what people expect from us. >> there are a lot of calls for investigations into
