ted greenberg slooif in washington township. let's begin with mitch blocker. you can see the white smoke that used to be a wall of thick black smoke. but now as you look through the clouds, you can see the trees beneath them. when we got on the scene, it locks like a 7,000-foot ceiling for where these clouds are. that's about half that according to the radar equipment. for more on how this is affecting those on the ground, let's go to ted greenberg. >> reporter: we are on the ground at the command post in washington township burlington county. this is closed right now because of the smoke and falling ash. we're about three miles away from the perimeter of that fire. if you're drive iing to the jer shore this evening or tomorrow, there's a chance you'll run into that smoke. many already have. the garden state this year sending flames leaping into the air. plumes of smoke reaches the beaches at the shore. this is a strong burning smell. >> smoke from the raging blaze in a remote section in burling county blowing into atlantic, cape may and ocean counties cutting

ted greenberg live for us in margate. so the floodwater appears to be receding to some degree. >> reporter: to some degree. slowly. there was a lot of rain that came down, inches and inches that krystal has been telling us about. this is benson avenue. 6-year-old evan is over there having a good time in the water this morning. he has his flip philanthropies on, not boots. but you can see this street is still flooded. quite a number of streets are still flooded here in margate because there was so much water. takes a long time for the storm drains to be able to drain that water out into the bay. and it's not just here. we have been seeing scenes like this in the atlantic and cape may counties. that a look at video from authorinorth wildwo wildwood. you can see high water, cars in the water, cars going through it. some folks taking chances and driving through the flood waters. not necessarily a good idea. we have seen cars this morning stalled out in the water. take a look at avalon, as well. speaking of cars potentially st

and ted greenberg is weathering it out there noticing how high the water is rising. good sign here that cape may county now instead of the yellows, reds, oranges, now just a deep green. that is still a steady rain, but it's not the heavy rain of before. atlantic city airport, 5 1/4 inches reported so far. and it is certainly over the flash flood threshold. you can see the flood reports, those are the green little boxes. and they are focused over these two counties. we've also had one report in kent county from alle little earlier this morning. so hour by hour, the model is showing the heavy rain over philadelphia, new castle. it's not accounting for that dry area wedge that is moving in, but still shows us that the heaviest rain sticks over parts of atlantic county and cape may county right through 8:00 a.m., but starting to weaken through the morning hours. so by 11:30 in the morning, some spot heavier pockets are still hanging on and then more spotty showers through the afternoon hours along southern delaware and the jersey shore. but for the rest of us, this will

our jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg is out along ventnor avenue in margate where the flooding has been happening for much of the morning, ted. >> reporter: it certainly has, you see the suv pulling into a parking lot, driving through lot of water. that person taking a risk and driving through. you can see it looks like a river at the moment. this is ventnor they're washington and the water comes all the way across the street. at the moment it doesn't look like it is getting inside the store, but a lot of these shore communities that have storm grains that have a tough time keeping up with so much rain coming down, so quickly you see some folks left their cars out here on ventnor avenue and there is water up over the tires. and those folks will find out later today if there is any damage to those cars and if the water got inside. take a look at some video in avalon. this is ocean drive. and you can see a similar situation there. people did not move their cars to higher ground and those cars are now parked in floodwater. and it's not just on streets. take a look at have i donvid

today nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg spoke to a former police chief whose officers were part of this incident. >> he says base on this video, it's clear police had very few choices given the situation. >> a barrage of 70 bullets caught on camera in a dramatic police dash cam video just revealed to the public. >> i responded to the scene almost immediately. >> reporter: now retired, this police chief saw these images that same day in 2014. when the 27-year-old shot repeatedly at police, serve officers returned firing shooting the williamstown man 45 times killing him. >> when we sawly how it ended, we were all in shock. >> reporter: now able to e reflect publicly on the video, watson initially led authorities on a a pursuit that began in pleasantville and continued through three other communities. watson showed a gun and also fired at police. his suv collided with a car on atlantic avenue in the heart of atlantic city's business outlet shopping district. it shows people running away. >> not only was there a threat to the officers, there was a threat to the public. ba

ted greenberg joins us live. you talked to witnesses who saw the whole thing? >> reporter: that's right. ocean city is a dry town with a zero-tolerance policy for drinking alcohol on the beach, but when lifeguards and police tried to enforce the policy, the situation got physical. ocean city lifeguards intently watching the water. a day after police say the beach patrol members were attacked on duty. the guards heard urgently calling for help from police around 4:30 p.m. on the fourth of july. >> it's sickening. it really is. >> reporter: the drama unfolding in front of the hundreds on people. authorities say it started when the guards asked a group of rowdy seemingly drunk men to calm down. >> they should not have been on the beach. >> it became a physical pushing, shoving type of struggle. our officers got down there, again it was escalating to a physical confrontation between the lifeguards, offices and subjects on the beach. >> reporter: three of those men arrested on the spot, but two others ran into the boardwalk, and then through wonderland pier. >> i do

ted greenberg joins us live. you talked to witnesses who saw the whole thing?right. ocean city is a dry town with a zero-tolerance policy for drinking alcohol on the beach, but when lifeguards and police tried to enforce the policy, the situation got physical. ocean city lifeguards intently watching the water. a day after police say the beach patrol members were attacked on duty. the guards heard urgently calling for help from police around 4:30 p.m. on the fourth of july. >> it's sickening. it really is. >> reporter: the drama unfolding in front of the hundreds on people. authorities say it started when the guards asked a group of rowdy seemingly drunk men to calm down.
