ted haggard left his church after a sexual scandal.smaller church with his wife, gayle, author of "why i stayed." i also spoke with troy sanders outside atlanta who in 2008 was part of the group soul force which met with bishop long. >> pastor ted, obviously bishop long should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, but does it seem explainable to you that he would send out pictures of himself in skin-tight outfits to young men in his congregation? >> we know the pictures are there. we're not sure where they came from. but there was a movement several years ago where people were concerned about the direction of the church. and there was kind of a masculine movement. pastors are sometimes more masculine in certain churches. that doesn't mean he's guilty. >> professor troy, how closely do you follow what bishop long's church is doing? he was called, quote, one of the most homophobic black leaders in the anti-gay movement. is that an accurate description? >> i think there are a number of church leaders that come down rather hard on the

everyone needs redemption. >> ted haggard.his congregation, this church this morning. we're expecting bishop long any second to appear. you were saying yesterday it is harp hard to separate the faith from this man at this church because he has built it. >> reporter: he has. i just want to point out to you, there's still a long line of traffic. the service is well underway, and yet there's a long line of cars staem cars attempting to get in. some have given up and are parking and walking on foot. parishioners said this is highly unusual, especially for the early service. so it's quite clear that everyone in this congregation realizes this is a significant moment in the church's religious life in this community and in their own religious faith. that said, when you talk to people here, a milkture of emotions. some people have the music playing, religious music. they're very enthused and feeling the spirit. other people we've seen drive by in tears. clearly very emortgationally up by what they anticipate to hear. you ask what do t

ted haggard has had his own sex scandal and crisis of faith. it was back in 2006 and he joins us from denver. thank you so much for joining us, ted. how are you doing today? >> i'm doing well. good to see you, don. >> what do you make of these allegations against bishop eddie long? >> well, it's very sad. i think it points out to me that over and over and over again we all hope that our leaders don't have sin in their life or don't fail but when we look we find out leaders are just like everybody else. whether he's guilty of these particular allegations or not, there are other faults in everybody's life. everybody needs grace. everybody's going to fail. everybody is in some measure a hypocrite in one way or another and that's always disappointing. and so i think it just points out to us that we are all humans and we all struggle with the human condition. >> so listen. i want to play this because what happened with you, it was said that you were hypocritical in a sense because at first you didn't tell the truth about it. you said, well, these al

this is described as similar to what happened to ted ha xwggard. did the haggard scandal, though, change the way the church community views or handles allegations like the ones made against bishop long? >> that's the question. look, number one, for white people, god bless white america, right? haggard did not have the same influence and prominence in the white community that eddie long in black atlanta had and black america. this is a major deal because the black church plays a greater examine more influential role in black america than the white evangelical community plays in white america. so this is having a much more dramatic impact on black people than was the case with ted haggard. >> rev rapped, always appreciate your comments. thank you so much. >> good to see you. thank you so much, alex. >> we're going to have a live report from ron mott who is outside that church. we're also expect to go hear from bishop long this morning, scheduled for 10:00 a.m. bishop's wife, attorney and missionaries from the church are expected to be on hand. >>> from there to wash
