ted ligety, did he have better luck on the slopes? is a spoiler alert, because we have been spoiled with good results and we're not getting many today. he was in sixth place after his first run, did not finish his second run. so a dnf for ted ligety. of course, he had his gold in his best event, the giant slalom. he wasn't favored to win a medal here, but there was some hope he had some confidence and could really pull something off. so he did not get a medal in that particular race. so in both sort of key events today, not good news. although in the last item, we might have a little silver lining. >> okay. i'm scared to ask you a third question. after the bad news on those two. okay, forget hockey. forget the slopes for a second. let's go to bobsledding. how are we doing in bobsledding? >> reporter: you know what, we're not doing that badly, tj. it's not over yet. the four-man bobsled is really our last chance at a medal. two runs today and the third and fourth runs for the medal tomorrow. steve holcomb, the pilot, they start the sec

and the giant slalom is ted ligety's signature event.he event where he really carves the snow like an artist. and he did so yesterday. and ted ligety is a really kind of calm, laidback guy. as i say, he's always working at about 98.6. you know, he never gets real overly excited or really overly down. and yesterday when he came off the hill and i got a chance to speak to him, he's, like, that's awesome ap pnld it does mean a lot to team usa because quite frankly i think the americans' results in alpine skiing have been pretty disappointing so far. andrew weibrecht got a silver and bode miller got a bronze earlier this -- in this olympiad, and julian mancuso got a bronze, but this is the first gold and it's a big boost of confidence to team usa. >> let's talk quickly about lauryn williams, teamed with elana meyers to win that silver in the two-man bobsled. she's won a medal in the winter and summer games. how historic is this? >> reporter: she is the fifth olympian to medal in both the summer and winter games. she has a gold and a silver b

let's talk about ted ligety. his best event was the giant slalom. he proved that today in first place after the first run. bode miller, also struggling at these olympics. he has a bronze medal. he is in 14th right now. the second runs are set for a bit later today. women's bobsled, a big day for the american team. they have won a medal in every women's bobsled event since the sport was included in the olympics in 2002. looks like they will do the same today. usa team 1, in first place. team 2 in third place and well beyond most of the rest of the competition. two heats in that. lolo jones, who has struggled in the summer olympics. we know the heartbreak over the last three years. switched to the winter olympics in bobsled. they are in fourth place. looks like another struggle to reach a medal here. we try to take you inside the games and show you a little bit of what's going on. i want to show you this. this is the actual starter for speed skating. omega has been the time piece for the olympics for more than a quarter of a century. this is the start
