ted couldn't be with us tonight. his daughter laura turner seidel will accept the award for her dad. first, let's take a look back and honor ted's unparalleled achievements. >> i first met and began to know and work with ted turner in the late 1980s when i came to the national cable television association. he, of course, was on the board. i began to get to know him and watch him and learn from him. >> of kourks i had always known of ted turner since i'm a sailor and ted was the greatest amateur sailor that america produced. >> i don't think it's an overstatement to say that ted and others really broke the tyranny of the three-broadcast network model. he became the brand of the cable industry. brash, creative, competitive. >> he really would do anything for the industry. he never once said he would do something that he didn't do. he was on the tci board of directors for a number of years. it was a brotherhood. >> i think it's almost immeasurable in terms of the impact he had on me and our industry. i think there are a lot of people in the indu

and maybe in the beginning they were under ted turner. they want to go back to being just a news network straight down the middle. well, good luck. because i can't really think of anyone who would remain on that network that they currently have on the air in any capacity. if you're going to become all of a sudden a straight news network, they'll have to find all new people. well, but i have to wonder who this is, the bigger question. i think that a lot of people are looking at the media world right now. i'm thinking, you know, i remember a headline news that was kind of what they did. they liked that originally doing those, just the points of it. but do you think in this stage it's unreal, especially we have all social media competing to think you could have a news network, broadcast news network with no opinion. and it actually be popular that people actually watch it. yeah, you know, there's one guy who has a new show, dan abrams on a, on another network. and i see the ads all the time because he also runs the media and i see his ads on

. >> in june of 2016, ted turner put his 43,000 acre ranch on the market, land the osage lost after thehey had raised through casinos they started building in 2002. before he accepted, turner, an environmentalist, made one request. i want this land preserves for generations to come. chief standing bear had the right answer. he said, it won't be just generations. it will be forever. what's it like for you to be standing on land that you all have gotten back? >> it's spiritual and political. it's a place for the bison, a place for us to live our lives somewhat as our ancestors did. >> what's the future of the osage? >> self determination. the stuff that happened in the past, we need to remember it, never forget it, but learn from it and go forward. >> while we were victims of that time, we don't live like victims today. what makes us osage sha we always move forward. that is what i think henry, my great grandfather would say, keep going forward. >> george scoot, edmond right behind jaden. >> the osage won't let that dark moment in their history define them. >> jason, scoot in. >> they tp
