former homicide detective and former news contributor ted williams joins me now. take me through how an information which i'm sure -- an investigation which i'm sure is very complicated, how would it work? >> good morning, ashley. i can tell you the way this investigation is working. they're working from the crime scene that's to over my shoulder here. it was in this area that at 3:15 on new year's day that that this guy used a vehicle the to run and kill 15 citizens of this country. so what they're doing is they're corking -- working from here: this place at this sage the is a crime scene -- stage is a crime scene. they're gather as much forensic evidence and other physical evidence as they can. they're also working from where jabbal is supposed to have resided, and that is houston, texas. so you have investigations going not only here in new orleans, louisiana, but you also have investigations going in houston, texas. ashley: ted, do you think from if what you've seen so far that the attacker in new orleans had help, or was he acting alone? i know it's hard to t

ted williams, thank you so much. point, it is so difficult, julie, to secure what is essentially just one big street party. how do you do it? >> julie: no command we live in a free country. new orleans, that is the draw of new orleans, is walking on foot. this driver obviously targeted a street that is always filled with foot traffic, but nonetheless come on new year's day, what better day would you find mass amounts of people, which is why the police chief pointed out this person was looking to cause mass casualties, and they got exactly what they wanted. but the investigation is that the early phases, and it will be fascinating to find out more as to who was behind plotting this and what the actual motive was. we will continue. we are monitoring the situation out of new orleans after a driver plowed into a new year's eve crowd, killing ten people and injuring at least 35 others. what we know about the fbi's investigation so far next. nothing brings us together like eggland's best eggs. always so fresh and delicious.

first ted williams is live in new orleans with the latest. ted, thank you so much for being here with us and thank you for being on the ground there. what are you learning from being where you are and seeing this investigation firsthand? >> hi molly and rich. i can tell you the things that we're learning right now is i had an interview with the chief of police this morning. i don't know -- i don't think they're sure whether this person acted as a lone wolf or he had accomplices. they did, in fact, have individuals that they believe was in their sight, meaning law enforcement. they interviewed those individuals and have let those individuals go. so the search is still on as to whether there is an actual manhunt going on here in the new orleans area at this time. >> molly: ted, when you talk about individuals let go, they also talked about a range of suspects in the course of this investigation. do you feel like they are leaning one way or the other? the range of suspects, could it mean people that may have offered something to the subject in th

let's bring in ted williams fox news contributor, former dc homicide detective and defense attorney. so initially the mayor of new orleans comes out and says that this is a terrorist attack. then the fbi, in the same press conference, says that it is not, and it is our understanding obviously, with this statement just clarifying, they're still investigating whether or not it is. and that's just the facts at this point. we don't know. but at the end of the day, i wanted to get your sense here of just the unpredictability of a vehicle ramming attack like this. using a vehicle, this is an incredibly difficult type of attack to try to stop. >> you know, let me offer my deepest condolences, if i can, to all who have lost their lives there. as i was thinking about this, as i was coming on, this is clearly an act of terrorism. we saw this just most recently in germany where someone used a vehicle to go into a crowd and kill many people. the chief of police or superintendent of police there in new orleans said, there is no doubt in my mind that this was an intentional act. this person intent
