when you read the polls about ted cruz gaming, and ted cruz telling you how he was going to unite all aspects of the movement, the simple facts means he is going to walk out of all of his key states assuming that carson drops and crews and is a beneficiary, with a much smaller delegate lead and as in the states that are more heavily and list moderates, particularly those in the midwest and the northeast votes later and are very likely and have much more winner take all approaches. somebody who wins new jersey will get 51 delegates. you will have to win four deep southern states by a large margin to get 51 delegate lead. aat that means is if there is candidate who is favored by the establishment and moderates who is not fatally wounded by march 15. the person is highly likely to win the nomination. but they will have to wait until april to be able to show that by winning an of states to the other candidates of the other candidate will drop out. karlyn bowman: one thing we should point out in those march 1 to 15 contests, eight of those states have threshold of 20%. so the delegates cou

tell us ted cruz's background. >> well, ted cruz is half cuban.ather was born in cuba came here -- the story has recently been contested in "the new york times" to the extent the father made initial claims that he fought against batista, that he fought with the guerrillas of fidel castro. you know, but basically, the story line is that he did fight against the government or at least his sentiments were against the batista government and he gave the new rebels ago added. the particulars have recently been challenged and the degree of his activism, but he did come to the united states. i'm not sure if the salt was in the air as ted cruz told us last night were exactly what happened on that ship, but the father did get here. actually, and of course eventually, settled in canada, which is where ted cruz was born. the mother, the other hand, is entirely anglo. so he is half. he was not raised, like marco rubio, in a cuban or hispanic affluentnt and is not spanish speaker at all. spanish.campaign in so his background is very, very different than, say, o

it makes sense a lot of those people would go to ted cruz in part because ted cruz is a pretty good standard bearer for the conservative vote, particularly in iowa. also, ted cruz and marco rubio have had the best strategic patience of anybody on the republican side of the field. they understand the timing of these things, the pace of these things, and they want their kick in a marathon when it matters as you couple on the first vote. cruz has been almost brilliant in his way of cultivating the right-wing base and not alienating donald trump. jon: if ted cruz is within spitting disexpanse of donald trump, we can expect to hear a lot of negative comments about ted cruz in the month ahead. >> so far we have seen little confrontation from these two candidates. they are like two boxers in their corner eyeing each other. each is reluctant to throw the first blow. ted cruz was talking about a softer tone and that was a veiled commend teary on -- a veiled commentary on donald trump. jon: if candidates start to drop out of the race, are they going to go other places? >> my suspicion is some polls ar
