this is along samsung here along telegraph hill. if you're headed toward the embarcadero, not far from levi's plaza. meteorologists say all of this happening after a record amount of rainfall came down onto the area all day yesterday. but later today, we expect to see city workers from the public works department come take a closer look at all of this. they'll want to make sure this isn't a bigger threat. of course, the immediate concern is any potential threat to the homes at the top of telegraph hill. doesn't look like this is very close to those homes, but you never know. it's something engineers want to take a look at. right now. there are no orders for evacuations or any red tagging of homes. we heard from the fire department who says there's no threat to the public at this point. but with more rain coming in tomorrow, all of that could certainly change, and inspectors could have something they'll want to worry about. we'll let you know what they have to say. but we also saw trees crashing down all throughout the city. and the

why is the telegraph often talking about them all the time? these individual cases, it's easy to look at them and assume that these are kind of freak one off particularly extreme examples. and i think what the paper is trying to show at the moment is that this is actually pretty commonplace. so the idea that someone could enter the country in 2011 go through, as you say, eight different appeals. eventually, the judge almost seems to give up when the woman who says she has joined a terrorist organisation and is allowed to remain. now, this is quite common, actually. there's a strange incentive pattern we have right now where if you commit a serious crime that we've seen in some examples, if you commit a sexual assault or rape, it's more likely you will be allowed to remain in the uk than if you committed a minor crime, because you can make the argument that you would be punished unduly back home. this is the kind of strange, perverse systems that human rights law creates in the uk. this isn't just a problem of the echr, it's the way the law is

tran is now near telegraph hill will. >> good news to pass along. there will be no need to evacuate people living on telegraph hill. let me step out and you can see the swath of the hillside just removed because mother nature did this. they were already cracks on the hillside and that caused it to crumble. but look at this. the homes still intact way up there. and this is good news because 18 years ago they had to be evacuated on the other side of the hill. same situation because of heavy rainfall and then the landslide. in this case, it was not destructive, but it was dirty in the way of all that debris that just came down on the bike lane and lane number one of the roadway. they have a retaining wall, but it was no match for all the tons of debris. they came down so they'll have to come out and clean it up. but the good news is this should be removed and ready to go for tomorrow. i got a chance to talk to rachel gordon from the department of public works. she says we dodged a bullet. we got lucky, right? because it looks like the middle towards th

so this mudslide happened on sansom street, right near telegraph hill tuesday night. a lot of heavy rain was falling and kron four's will tran is out there for us this morning with a look at the situation will. >> james, now that the sun is that you can clearly see what happened. geologists will be here at 9 o'clock this morning. they have blocked off the bicycle lane and lane number sampson and union. look at this. they are fully aware that this area's possible landslide area because they even have netting. but the netting. thank goodness caught a lot of the debris and it didn't spill throughout the entire road here. you can see that chunk of the hillside just crumbled and went down. geologists will come out here and check it out to see if the homes above the landslide will be okay. this all went down at around 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon when, of course, we saw heavy rainfall and i'm sure the ground is still very saturated all over the bay area. and here at telegraph hill, they will check to see if it's strong enough to keep their homes. as far as the people insid
