i don't think tennesseans will be very comfortable canceling insurance for 22 million americans now and saying, trust congress to find a replacement in two years. pilots like to know where they are going to land when they take off and so should we. now, mr. president, we are proceeding ahead with our debate on the health care bill. it may be a little convoluted for people watching from the outside, but it's pretty straightforward. the house of representatives has gone through a series of votes and has a bill to repeal and replace obamacare now. the senate has been working for six months, not just to repeal obamacare, but to repeal and replace now. there is some urgency about this. we have millions of americans who are worrying that they may not be able to buy insurance this 2018. that's a very personal worry for millions of americans. they want us to address it now, not two years from now. so how do we do that? well, later today we will have an opportunity to vote for a bill which will take us to the place called a conference committee with the house of representatives where we can get

i was glad to hear that al gore, another tennessean, is saying, we need a national improved medicare for all. this is coming from legislators and former legislators in a red state. that makes me very proud to be from nashville. also, elizabeth warren of massachusetts has expressed her support for single-payer. but we don't see that movement in the senate or the house, even with 676, which has been produced for years. it would take political capital on the part of many senators and congress members to push this ford. >> it would. and i think the way we're going to do this i is, we're not going to wait around for our members of congress to say, now it is politically feasible. if we wait for that, we are one to be waiting for the rest of my life, your life, and many more lives. what we have to do is more of what is happening in congress right now. it is like occupy congress. that is having the american people join in a movement of movements. i got arrested -- i was sitting in the paddy wagon with four other people, including three young millennials, incredibly energetic young people, an
