i'm terry moran. and we're going to begin tonight with a strange phenomenon that many find simply unbelievable. animal hoarding, it's called. these are people that are far more than pet lovers. no, they are truly obsessed by the need to obtain and keep pets, sometimes by the dozen, sometimes by owning 100 or more. many of them choose to live in squalor rather than parting with their pets. our yunji de nies peered into this world and the psychological mind-set of animal hollywooders. >> reporter: olga watched helplessly as investigators removed dozens of animals, dogs, cats, pigeons, even a fox, some alive, many dead from her philadelphia home, a place where she says the animals were well cared for. >> i spare no expense. they're my babies. i have no husband or children to worry about. they were my children. >> reporter: this shocking scene is all too common. >> one of the biggest animal hoarding cases ever. >> 250 dogs rescued from a home. >> pit bulls and more than 100 pigeons found living in filth.

even though the focus is on terri horman this is and always has been about kyron.rankly, nobody is going to be arrested including terri herself unless we find out what happened to kyron. he's either alive or he's dead. there won't be an arrest in this case anytime soon. >> you referred to it as a fork in the road right now. what does terri mean moving out of the home, 170 miles away, what does that do for the case? >> first of all, it creates a logistical issue for both her and her legal team. both the prosecutors are going to have to contact the counterparts. there won't be daily face-to-face meetings with attorneys. but the important thing here, this is actually stemming from the civil divorce case that's filed by kaine horman. so from the filing of it to restraining order to the motion to move out of the house to the contempt of court hearing, it's all been putting pressure on terri horman. >> and the pressure is on her and continues to grow, as you said. what do you make of kaine horman revealing that terri failed the polygraph test and then she then vented abo

dede right now seems to be on terri's side.of them is where they seem to be focusing efforts on june 4th. >> dede's home has been searched. kyron's father and mother say she's hampering investigation. the sheriff's department did recently come out and answer questions from journalists via e-mail. one question that stuck out is whether they have any information to believe whether kyron is alive. they didn't answer it correctly. >> that is significant partly because of this e-mail question. again, this has been a very strange and frustrating public relations piece for my former employer. what we have, they took three days to carefully parse those answers. you're absolutely right, erica, is the question is, do you have any information to believe he's alive? they could not bring themselves to say yes. the best they could do is, we continue to hope. that put the sheriff's office in the same position as thousands of others looking for kyron. >> based on your experience, the number of years you spent with the department, what do you t

terry mcsweeney, "abc 7 news." >> it's 5:02 now. it could be a rough ride or no ride at all for people that use a.c. transit. bus service was disrupted for many riders when 200 drivers didn't show up for work. teresa garcia is live in fremont at the big a.c. transit hub. this is all about a labor dispute. >> right, they are not happy with the newly imposed contract. it will affect riders and this ranges as far as north richmond right down to fremont. the 200 drivers that didn't show yesterday, that makes up about 18% of the workers. even if the same thing happens today there clearly will be some bus service. what is going to happen today. the transit workers union plans to seek another ruling to get the contract stopped. the union achieved a ruling in it's favor on friday when a judge required an arbitrator to legally decide on contract issues. a.c. transit has chosen to put a cost cutting contract if it remains in place would reduce costs by nearly $16 million hand that would help the projected $16 million deficit. we caners are di

terry, this story, highly unusual. what do we know right now?reporter: jeff, this is a very bizarre story. apparently the two u.s. service members were c.v.s returning from a training mission about five miles south of kabul and appeared to be kidnap bide the taliban somewhere on their trip back. the taliban themselves have told cbs news they kidnapped these two men with 10 taliban on the road and removed them to a secure location. the bizarre thing about the story, however, is these two men appear to be traveling on their own. this is not normal practice for u.s. forces in afghanistan. normally, they would be in a convoy of at least two if not more vehicles. jeff. >> glor: second question, the u.s. is reporting the death of five more than troops in afghanistan raising this month's death toll to 56. . >>> good evening, i'm terry moran. and we're going to begin tonight with a murder investigation that is leading authorities down a dark path. the suspect, 27-year-old jason thomas scott, a college graduate, studying for a master's degree. maryland police say he is also a killer, whose victims include two pairs of mothers and daughters. scott, they say, studied police forensics, to learn how to hide his crimes using bleach and arson to destroy evidence and the database from his job at ups to identify potential targets. pierre thomas has the story on a cerebral serial killer suspect. >> reporter: the horror began at this home on january 26th, 2009 as an intruder neutralized the alarm system and slipped in. karen lofton, a 45-year-old nurse, was fatally shot as she tried to hide in this corner. her 16-year-old daughter was repeatedly shot as she frantically dialed 911 from her bed. police were perplexed. the doors were locked. no signs of forced entry. neighbors were terrified. >> so when they catch them, i'll be afraid.

>> the stepmom who is terri horman, who kyron has lived with. >> larry: right.sedly wants to hire someone to kill her husband. any reason for this? what's the investigation showing? >> they didn't divulge the motive. there's some suspicions that there were problems in the marriage, but i don't think they have nailed down the exact motive, investigators did have the landscaper assist their investigation and had them come conn tact terri horman, kyron's stepmom, and this time accompanied by an undercover officer and wearing a body mike. in the recorded conversation, he he wanted terri horman to pay him $10,000 so he wouldn't go to police. apparently she was wise to what was going on and cut off the conversation very quickly. >> all right. >> authorities -- >> larry: i'm sorry. go ahead. >> investigators thought what the landscaper said was fairly credible, was credible and serious enough that they shared it with kyron's dad on june 26th. and within two days, he obtained a family law attorney and filed for divorce and a petition for restraining order. >> larry: any

a message. >> terry goddard says you play politics with immigration and lost.say to his tweet or do you have a tweet back to him? what do you think of that? >> terry goddard needs to do his job. >> reporter: continuously brewer has been calling on the federal government to do their jobs. she says she has plans to file an expedited appeal. in tucson, lori jane gliha. abc 15 news. >>> a phoenix police officer also filed a suit challenging the law and calls the judge's decision a step in the right direction. abc 15's corey rangel spoke with one of the officers today. that officer says he's happy the judge stepped in and took action. >> reporter: the officer says he's relieved and overjoyed, and in his own words, says he's glad the judge saw the truth. officer david salgado filed one of seven lawsuits challenging senate bill 1070, saying it was unconstitutional. as a police officer he says he worries the law would lead to racial profiling, even though the bill had wording prohibiting that. now salgado says the judge's ruling has put most of his concerns at ease. >>
