terry: yes, sir. now the purpose of this inquiry was to discuss some health care alternatives for the v.a. nebraska-western iowa health care system. our hospital for 170,000 area veterans is in serious disrepair. boilers, hvac, emergency generators, just a very suer and water pipes are literally duct taped together. we have heard that it's the second worst hospital infrastructure in all of their ospital inventory. now, even last march, the operating rooms had to be closed down to failing humidifiers, and we're talking about the basic functioning of this hospital, that's out of date. without replacement soon the hospital could face additional shutdowns for costly replacements of this infrastructure. now, currently we are on the list to be built. somewhere around 18 to 20, but the reality is for years now the list hasn't moved. and now our v.a. employees are being told that it would be somewhere in the 2021 to 2022 range. i fear it will be later than that before the new in-patient tower could be built.

right now let's check in with kimberly terry at the scene with the latest for us. >> reporter: diane, i know you can just see smoke behind me but i did look inside the building just a couple of seconds ago and there are still flames inside of that building. there's a lot of heat coming from the fire and i can feel a lot of the mist coming from the water that is being put on it. there are at least two ladder trucks along with a truck with a deck gun shooting 1,000 gallons of water a minute at this fire. this is the old kntv building, close to the san jose fire training facility and the shar tank. firefighters say when they arrived the building was engulfed, crews went in looking for people but were not able to do a complete sweep of the building. we actually just had to move back, firefighters just asked us to move back to make room for an engine coming through. now, this five-alarm fire started at about 3:00 this afternoon, it grew from there. mutual aid needed to be called in almost immediately. there is very heavy smoke making it very hard to breathe and there are ashes falling. nei
