. >> i'm terry mcsweeney. in oakland, the red cross stepped in to help 30 people find a place to stay after a deadly fire near the corner of 24th street and san pablo in west oakland. firefighters did not get there in time to save two men. ing, terry. we've seen some residents coming and going, some visibly upset. this was a deadly fire. two men killed in this fire. dozens more people displaced. we did have a chance to speak with one of the residents here who says at least part of the building that burned was a place where many artists and musicians live. a former armory on 24th near san pablo that was converted. firefighters say when they came to the building around 3:00 this morning, they came on reports of a smoke alarm sounding kind of low. crews didn't see smoke right away but then saw smoke coming from one of the units. it spread through the attic. by 4:00 a.m. they say it was under control. then two victims were located in that unit where the fire started, believed to be 28 and 35 years old. residents s

good evening terry. police tape is still up in this hayward neighborhood but neighbors are glad it has finally come to an end. i spoke to neighbors on the other side who say they heard the initial gunshots fired when this first started at 2:00 this morning. police say the man got out and the fired at one of their veteran officers who fired back. the officer was not injured. the suspect took off. police searched the area. they went yard by yard and residents were urged to stay in place. this afternoon, police say they had information ed he was in apartments in the air. at one point, tear gas was deployed and they were able to move in. >> i'm not certain whether or not the suspect was inside the unit or outside the unit but initially was uncooperative. and the tazer was deployed and the subject was taken into custody. >> reporter: police say that initial stop was they believed the car might have been involved in a shooting at 10:00 saturday night. that car, a white infinity suv type vehicle. they are askin
