[music] hello, i'm ivette torres. welcome to another edition of the road to recovery. today we'll be talking about the language that we use on issues related to addiction and recovery. joining us in our panel today are: daphne baille, director of communications, treatment alternatives for safe communities, tasc incorporated, chicago, illinois. dr. john kelly, associate professor in psychiatry, massachusetts general hospital, harvard medical school, boston, massachusetts. lureen mcneil, director, bureau of recovery services, new york state office of alcoholism and substance abuse services, new york, new york. carlos hardy, director of public affairs, baltimore substance abuse systems, incorporated, baltimore, maryland. john, what role does language play in forming public opinion on addiction and mental health issues? i think language plays a critical role in the way that, after all, it's the, it conveys the meaning of, of what we're trying to express. and so i think it plays a very important role and we should think ca

the three-legged stool are working together -- the city family, the organizing committee, and the event itself. we are blessed to have such a terrific champion for the america's cup leading the organizing committee. [applause] commissioner buell: and you very much. we have the easy job. our committee is going to raise about $30 million in the next three years to host the event, and we are committed to helping the event of 40 raise another $270 million to put on the regatta's that lead up to and the hosting of the america's cup. i want to thank the lieutenant governor. he asked me to do this about six months ago. how can you turn down an opportunity to try to create an event in the greatest stadium god could create for the america's cup? i have already had a private conversation with him about getting engaged -- seriously engaged in helping carry out this event. mr. lieutenant governor, i want to thank you for that. to mayor ed lee, i could not be more thrilled than to have this be his first act as mayor -- official at -- and also to list it as one of his top three priorities because it will take an enormous effort on everybody's par

the -- and we now have both at the state level and at the city level we have a convention and tourism bureau that is doing a terrific job of attracting and marketing. and also keeping an eye on what is going on here. and making sure for example, where the cabs were overcharging. and that stuff is cleaned up and is there a strong enforcement. again under the bloomberg administration tourism industry has reached a whole different level. we are the number one tourism destination in the country, we have surpassed orlando and want to keep it that way. >> so, you have visited the mayor and the governor and now go to the president or congress, and what do you tell him what you don't want as much as you do want? >> in this case there is a long wish list when we get to washington. what we would love to see from washington is immigration reform. something that allows this country to operate on a much more market-driven approach to immigration. we have a very difficult time getting appropriate and timely visas and green cards. we are sending graduates of our grea great universities that we have trained and sending them back to
