terry mcsweeney is live in san francisco with details. terry? >> yeah. this new information comes to us from the insurance institute of highway safety and it says 156 people are alive today because of these red light cameras. if you haven't seen one, take a look at one right behind me. there's one here at 5th and harrison, one at 5th and howard, 5th and market. you get the idea. take a look at other cameras we have around the bay area. there are 34 of them in san francisco alone. you can find them from santa rosa to san jose and this new study says they in fact save lives. found that between 2004 and 2008 in 14 cities nationwide, none of those were in the bay area. red light running, fatal crashes dropped 24% saving 83 lives. but the study goes on to say that the number of all fatal crashes, not just red light running fatales fell as well and that's where they get that number 156. bay state people know these cameras are in these intersections and they drive more cautiously. they have surveyed saying traffic actually increases at these intersections becau
