ambassador to china, after having a good retentive mind, i said i remember about a year ago when terry branstadas saying all these great things, your governor. i called them up and said you've been doing this for 24 years, you want to do something else? how do like to be ambassador to china? i didn't think you would really do it. it's a long trip. 21 hours, as a lot of playing time. but he wants to do what's right for the country. i said to him tonight, i wasn't sure you were going to do it. and he says when my president calls me to help him with our great country, i do it. that's what he said to me. [applause] i thought it was nice. so central to that economic agenda is a plan to restore america's crumbling infrastructure. we will rebuild the only america, but we will rebuild will america. -- will america. -- rural america. in this great national rebuilding, we will follow two simple rules. we will buy american and we will hire american. president has a certain style the way he tweets and talks that doesn't exactly mirror the way terry branstadhas had his career. in light of that, how do you see this dynamic playing out in ambassador branstad's role with china? >> thanks, dave. tomorrow the president, as you noted the president will be joined by governor branstad at kirkwood to not just discuss some agriculture aspects of what is going to be discussed but also talk about trade. he was clearly impressed with governor branstad's, as chuck grassley put it, has been an ambassador for iowa for decades if not his whole life. president feels those skillsets, understanding of china and helping us export u.s. products and agricultural goods and other services to china will be a huge asset to the united states. he chose governor branstad that he was empressed what he had done as ambassador -- as governor in iowa and respect he has of the people of iowa, i think it will serve this country well. so. >> kevin. >> sean, circle back on the georgia 6th. is it fair to say the president will be watching with great interest with the race that

we have just seen, for example, terry branstad will become the next ambassador to china. we expect that soon. there are lots of people in the pipeline as i'm sure you can understand. in the private sector, human resources. man finished please? we cannot always give you all of the information you want about each of the candidates. that is something we need to keep closely held in some instances. we can say this, the secretary has been very pleased with the bunch of people we have at the state department. i've been working in the building for the past five weeks and have met many of the people who have been fantastic, ongoing representatives of this body. they have been professional from the career civil servants to foreign officers on down. in terms of ambassadorship and appointees, i want to address that. i know a lot of you have questions about that. we have both career noncareer candidates have been identified under going to the clearance process. many of you have not been through the clearance process before. i went through a smaller version of the clearance process. i
