serve as the first amendment advisor to a task force that had been assembled by virginia governor terry mcauliffe to study the events in charlottesville. and because i had declined to participate as a lawyer in the matter i was free to serve task orders which i did. and that effort caused me to learn a great deal more about the summer's events in the backdrop to the summer's event in the city. and i ended up deciding to write a book about charlottesville which i have just completed. i'm now in the process of sending it out to publishers secure a publisher for the book. the writing of that was for me very painful and poignant re-examination of much of what i had taken as orthodoxy in my professional life as a first amendment lawyer and scholar. thought back to the oral argument in the case which took place not far where we are right now would holding. not far from where we are right now in the supreme court holding. building. the oral argument in that case was in some ways a window on these conflicts more illuminating than the supreme whichs ultimate decisions were already described for you in a k
