terry mcsweeney with some answers. and what's happening there? >> after six hours of searching they had cleared this area immediately off the road and basically a vertical drop about 40 feet down the side of this hill side. search and rescue crews are at the bottom of the canyon looking for the missing driver. a ups delivery truck towed back up to the road it went off of late this afternoon. the man behind the wheel, 44-year-old salazar of fair field not inside and nowhere to be found, even though he's the one who called 911 to report the crash. >> the driver had called in and said he needed assistance. the address was a little bit different than where we're at. >> reporter: but just like that the driver's phone died. lafayette police called in drones with infrared helicopters. as with well as skil60 members the search and rescue team to scour the terrain. >> most loikely he got out of te vehicle and walked away. they get up and get out. we don't know if he's hurt or not. >> reporter: search and rescue personnel propelling down the hill where the

. >> i am terry mcsweeney. first breaking news here in the south bay. a large house fire is warning people staying outside because of heavy smoke. live out there with marianne. >> reporter: there was a family inside and they were able to get out in time. it is an active scene you can see here. a lot of smoke pouring from the two-story home. to give you an idea of where we are. we are on the backside of fremont avenue near highway 85 here in sunnyvale. you can also see a ladder truck here. what firefighters have been doing is using this ladder truck to drop both water and foam on top of the roof. that's where the fire started. a family was inside this home when the fire broke out shortly after 7:00 tienonight. one person suffered a fire injury. it appears there is a fire in between the roof time. because the roof is at risk of collapsing. fire had to fight the flames from the perimeter. >> we went door-to-door and i just docked on door to make sure anybody inside, make sure they stay inside because it was heavy smoke and keep their windows shut early on.

terry mcsweeney is in berkeley for us this evening. what was said and what's being done? >> reporter: the mayor telling me tonight he support what's police did out here on saturday. >> they were in a tough spot. hundreds of people coming to berkeley, some armed most looking for a fight and they were not disappointed. a rolling vicious brawl in and around mlk park in saturday pro trump forces and ante fascists went at it. >> the police took a very thoughtful approach. they could he have moved in very aggressively. that definitely would have escalated things. >> the mayor says the police chief came up with new strategies to deal with the situation. >> such as fencing off the park and restricting access and exiting of the park, putting in place a policy that weapons would not be allowed in the park. >> reporter: many weapons were confiscated. still the charges included assault with a deadly weapon, battery and committing a criminal offense while wearing a mask. he says free speech stays. agitators have to go. >> i imagine it will not be the last time that you know, right win

i'm terry mcsweeney. >> and i'm peggy bunker. a 13-year-old girl is home safe tonight after escaping an alleged kidnapper who held her more than 24 hours. >> nbc's marianne favro has the details. >> what's unusual, it was a 911 call the suspect himself placed that ultimately led to his arrest. investigators say this man, timothy lee marble, sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl. they say he met the girl, who had run away, at a gas station in napa early friday morning. that's where he convinced her to get into his truck. sonoma county sheriff's deputies say on saturday morning he called 911, saying his 13-year-old companion jumped from his truck as it was moving. when deputies arrived to check it out, the girl stumbled out from the bushes with road rash and said she feared for her life. she also said marble drove them around, smoked marijuana and when she rejected his sexual advances, he tied her to a tree and raped her. the girl also told her marble injected her with methamphetamine and used a knife to cut his name into her skin.

i'm terry mcsweeney. peggy bunker has the night off. an east bay neighbor awake enby an explosion and family inside. tim jensen. he obtained exclusive cell phone video and that brings home the force of the blast. thom? >> reporter: boy, it really does. the neighbors were home slewhen they heard an explosion, this car was on fire, engine compartment before it spread to this car, then minutes later it was on the home. >> where's your hose at? >> reporter: a next door neighbor got the first video of the fire a couple minutes after it started. and his dad tried to alert the family still inside the home. >> the house is on fire. >> we called them out. they stayed in our house a little bit. >> reporter: the couple and two small children were not injured, but they could hear parts of their cars exploding as they burned next door. a man who lives down the block said it was the initial explosion that shook him. >> it sounded like a bomb went off, and then it just engulfed the cars. >> reporter: that was at about 2:00 in the morning. within minut

good evening and thank you for joining us, i'm terry mcsween , mcsweeney. >> and i'm peggy bunker. a wedding reception turned into a bloody brawl after a fight broke out last night at the party. >> and we have video just after the reception. marianne? >> reporter: this happened around 9:00 last night here at the hall behind me on 27th street in san jose. not far from downtown san jose. and this fight was so big that police had to be called in, when officers arrived at the hall, they found dozens of people fighting in the reception hall and pouring out on to 26th and 27th street. several people were covered in blood. it took officers more than an hour to gain control of the area. we just spoke with witnesses who told that they saw more than 15 police cars out here last night. police say at one point guests were throwing glass bottles and one person was injured and transported to a local hospital. at the event planner inc. which has both receptions here in the past, employees were surprised to learn of the fight. >> never heard of anything like that. we do have several venues here on
