terry mcsweeney is off tonight. world's attention on silicon valley with more outrage over gender inequalities. a memo written n released publicly by a google engineer has ignited another firestorm across social media this weekend. nbc bay area's tom jensen joining us from the newsroom. pretty shocking memo. >> reporter: it is. he argued that men are biologically better fit to work in tech and be leaders in the workplace. and he added that google is missing the boat when it comes to diversity programs because of that reason and others. the memo went public after it was sent out friday to google employees. when employees started talking about it on twitter saturday, it really started to attract attention. in may, google went public saying it had to improve the company's diversity program and close pay gaps between men and women. 70% of google's tech sector employees are men. one google employee tweeted this after reading the memo. that garbage fire of a document is trash and you are wonderful co-workers who i am extr

terry mcsweeney is off tonight. san francisco police are on patrol tonight keeping an eye out for trouble after a day when thousands mobilized peacefully across the city. it was an effort to voice opposition to a planned right wing demonstration that was cancelled at the last minute. the mayor is calling this a victory against hate. sergio? >> reporter: the organizer of the patriot prayer event did eventually make his way here to san francisco city hall this evening. he actually debated a few counterprotesters, but that was a whole lot smaller scale than what a lot of people had braced for. they rallied in alamo square. they marched and sang in the castro. and they had a die in in the mission. this was san francisco's response to the patriot prayer right wing protests that were planned. >> they marched throughout the city with that basic theme that we're going to resist hate we're going to make sure our city is safe. >> reporter: several converged at civic center for more of a street fair than a political rally. fir
