here's nbc bay area's terry mcsweeney. terry? >> tonight we have been told that san francisco police sergeant brug let at that is being taken care of here at san francisco general hospital. the last official word we have is in critical condition. he was on duty, driving his city issued unmarked sedan when a tree came down on brotherhood way near the police department's shooting range. he was trapped inside. firefighters had to pry him out before rushing him to the hospital. tonight the police officer's association released a statement saying, the members of the sfpoa are praying for the speedy recovery of the sergeant, who received injuries while on duty. we're grateful to our san francisco firefighters who responded with great professionalism and care to assist our officer as well as the nurses and doctors who make up his medical care team. the storm also took two lives in the city. one, a woman walking on lincoln way near golden gate park. >> i saw the ambulance and the police officers come here and we walked by and saw the tra

the news at 11:00 starts right now, thank you for joining us, i am terry mcsweeney. >> and i am gia vang. >> happening this morning during the sunnyvale's troop hike at the park the victim was a mother of one of the scouts on that hike, trend boys natalie rivera is in cupertino with the latest. >> it is a tragedy and it is super where. >> reporter: that is how chief ranger describes what happened during a boy scout troop's height in cupertino, the mid- peninsular district got a call around 10:00 a.m. about a woman trapped under a tree. it happened on the trail, that are known as the pg&e trail. >> that trail is very hard to get to, so they respond with atvs. >> reporter: when rescue crews arrived, they found a people who had tried to lift the tree off the woman but she died at the scene after first responders administered medical aid. the chief ranger says it's unclear why the tree fell. but he does mention they have seen a lot of trees toppling over from saturated soil after recent storms. anderson says they haven't had any incidents like this at the park, though. but he's warning anyon
