abc's chief foreign correspondent terry moran traveled with her. >> reporter: in a stadium in rwanda they held a memorial service this week and it climaxed with a striking moment an image of the genocide that happened here 20 years ago. the crowd hushed. they remembered. they remembered the darkness that came down on this land. a frenzy of slaughter, 800,000 people. nearly all members of 2 tutsi ethnic group. men, women and children killed in only 100 days, that's seven murders every minute. by members of the hutu group. who were their members, colleag colleagues, even their neighbors. 20 years later, the horror is still so fresh for so many survivors that dozens of them broke down during the memorial. in the stands, representing the united states, samantha power, u.s. ambassador to the united nations. we caught up with her in rwanda. why was it important for you to come here? >> president obama wanted us to come back and pay our respects, and show that even if it's 20 years later, this genocide is something that stays with us. >> reporter: she won the pulitzer problem for her book "

abc's chief foreign correspondent terry moran is on the scene for the ceremony. good morning, terry. >> reporter: good morning, george. what a morning it's been, the atmosphere electric here among the more than a million pilgrims they believe showed up. they streamed into st. peter's square beginning at dawn, filling the place to witness that moment. the high ceremony of the catholic church, pope francis with pope benedict in attendance making saints of two of their predecessors. john paul ii. john xxiii. throughout the crowd, at that moment, a remarkable quiet, sense of reverence in this vast crowd. pope francis concluding the ceremony and touring around in his popemobile. electrifying the crowd even more. what does it mean for catholics here? they said now that john paul ii and john xxiii, popes they grew up with are saints, they feel like they have two new friends in heaven. two popes, two saints. in 2,000 years the catholic church has never seen anything like it. >> saints are important to us in the catholic imagination. we look to them for help. >> reporter:

and abc's chief foreign affairs correspondent, terry moran, has the latest on the search for survivors. terry? >> reporter: good morning, george. this is a desperate situation. and it is ongoing. it was supposed to be a trip to paradise. 325 high school students, their teachers, other crew members and passengers en route to the resort island of jeju, the korean hawaii, it's called. then, disaster struck. desperate scenes off the coast of south korea. frantic efforts to rescue passengers from the stricken ferry, including hundreds of high school kids. more than 100 vessels and aircraft came to help. then, a horrible sight. the ferry sinks. almost 300 remain missing. young survivors describe the chaos. the announcement told us we should stay still, this student who scrambled to safety said. but the ship was already sinking. and there were a lot of students who did not get out of the ship. many passengers were at breakfast. others, still in bed. when survivors say they heard a loud crash. and the ship began shaking and immediately listing. it was very intense, this survivor recalled. the

>> terry moran, with the latest from the vatican. thank you. >>> now, for a lawsuit that's ended a season for the buffalo bills cheerleaders. women on the squad suing the team and the nfl, saying they get paid less than minimum page and are targets of sexual harassment. mara schiavocampo has the story. >> reporter: this morning, the buffalo bill cheerleaders are putting down their pom-poms. the company announces they are suspending operations for the rest of the season. this, just two days after being named in a lawsuit, brought by former cheerleaders. the lawsuit names the jills and the company associated with the team, alleges the women worked hundreds of hours for free. and were subject to groping at three unpaid events. >> we didn't get paid. >> it's definitely unacceptable. and we had hoped that we would not be put into situations like that. >> reporter: according to the lawsuit, the women were also allegedly forced to endure a weekly jiggle test. failing the test could result in suspension, penalties or dismissal. >> our coach
